Regular scissors vs. Teflon trimming scissors
Regular scissors
  • Bare steel blades gum up with resin after a few cuts
  • Spring tension fights your hand on every squeeze
  • Short blades can't reach tight interior growth
  • Hard plastic handles slip when hands are wet or sticky
  • Uncoated steel rusts if stored damp
  • Frequent cleaning breaks needed to maintain cutting quality
60mm Teflon Scissors
  • Teflon coating sheds resin and sap, stays cleaner between wipes
  • No spring: zero resistance, less hand fatigue over hours
  • 60mm straight blades reach deep into canopy and tight spots
  • Rubberized comfort grip stays secure when wet or sticky
  • Teflon over stainless steel resists corrosion and rust
  • Less buildup means longer runs between cleaning stops
What makes these scissors different

Teflon-Coated Stainless Steel Blades 60mm straight tip

The Teflon layer sits over solid stainless steel, preventing resin and sap from bonding to the blade surface. You still need to wipe them down, but the intervals between cleanings are significantly longer than bare steel.

Springless, Zero-Resistance Action

No spring mechanism means no force pushing back against your hand. This is the single biggest factor in reducing fatigue during multi-hour trimming sessions.

Precision Fine Point Tips

The straight blades taper to a fine point for detail work on small leaves and tight clusters where larger shears would damage surrounding growth.

Rubberized Comfort Grip Handles

Soft rubber over the handle body absorbs pressure and keeps the scissors from slipping. Growers with arthritis or limited hand strength report noticeably less strain compared to hard-handle models.

Corrosion-Resistant Construction

The Teflon coating and stainless steel base stand up to moisture, nutrient solution splashes, and humid grow-room environments without pitting or rusting.

Lightweight Build

Light enough to use one-handed for extended periods. The low overall weight reduces wrist strain during sessions where you're making hundreds of cuts.

Getting the most out of your Teflon scissors

1

Open and inspect

Check the blade pivot and tip alignment out of the package. The blades should meet evenly along their full length with no gap at the tips.

2

Trim with short, controlled cuts

Use the fine tips for detail work and the full 60mm blade length for longer sweeping cuts through leaf material. Let the blade sharpness do the work rather than forcing through tough stems.

3

Wipe down during sessions

Even with Teflon, residue will eventually build up. Wipe the blades with isopropyl alcohol or a blade cleaner periodically to keep cuts clean and precise.

4

Clean and dry after each session

Soak the blades briefly in isopropyl alcohol to dissolve any remaining buildup, wipe dry, and store in a dry location. This preserves both the Teflon coating and the stainless steel underneath.

Frequently asked questions
They handle leaf material and small, soft stems well. For woody or thick stems (anything thicker than a pencil), you'll want a dedicated pruner or snip with more leverage. These are precision trimming tools, not branch cutters.
With regular cleaning and proper storage, the coating holds up through multiple harvest seasons. It will wear down over time with heavy use, but the stainless steel blade underneath remains functional even after the coating thins. Avoid scraping the blades against hard surfaces or using abrasive cleaners, which accelerate wear.
Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) works best. Soak for a few minutes, then wipe with a soft cloth. Commercial blade cleaners like Dark Crystal Clear also work well. Avoid steel wool or abrasive scrubbers, which will strip the Teflon coating.
Yes. Spring-loaded scissors require you to work against the spring on every single cut, which compounds fatigue fast. Without a spring, the only force you're applying is what's needed to close the blades through the plant material itself. Combined with the rubberized grip, most customers with hand or wrist issues report a noticeable improvement over standard spring scissors.
The 60mm Teflon has a longer blade (60mm vs. 40mm), which gives you more reach and a longer cutting edge per snip. The 40mm titanium is more compact and better for very tight, detailed work where a shorter blade gives you more control. Teflon and titanium both resist buildup, but they use different coating methods. Many growers keep both sizes on hand.
Absolutely. The fine point and 60mm reach make them useful for bonsai shaping, herb harvesting, deadheading flowers, and general houseplant maintenance. They're not limited to one type of gardening.

Skimming the Surface
Format: Hardcover
The essence of this book is to succinctly explain the role of CIA's National Clandestine Service (Directorate of Operations) in formulating and more importantly executing a coherent counter-terrorism strategy. Gary Berntsen is a retired CIA intelligence officer (clandestine service) with an impressive record of field assignments to his credit. He also clearly knows the ways of Washington D.C. in that this book is designed for those suffering from attention deficit disorder. While he raises several interesting point in the book, he also reveals an astonishing narrowness of view and tendency to reduce everything to its simplest terms. In his introductory `background' chapter Berntsen makes the dubious claim that the collection of intelligence from human sources (HUMINT) is the "primary mission of CIA." Apparently he is unaware that CIA was originally founded to produce all source finished intelligence and that the National Intelligence Council (NIC), until recently under CIA, was the final word in the U.S. Intelligence System. Nothing reveals the sorry state of CIA's Directorate of Intelligence better than this claim. In the same manner Berntsen is apparently oblivious to the availability and uses of intelligence collected by technical means. To his credit he does recognize that the best intelligence is more often available from open (non-classified) sources than from secret sources. Yet he neither expands nor follows up this observation. Berntsen more or less follows this pattern through out this book. For example he provides a brief discussion of the traditional Islamic Banking System called Hawalla, but is apparently unaware that the system is based on a recognized credit not cash and that money does not move across international borders. The system is widely trusted and is widely used by Muslim expatriates in the West and Saudi Arabia to send money home. For this reason Hawalla credit transfers providing money to terrorists are easily lost in a world wide mass of transactions. Yet it is possible to track Hawalla transactions and it has been done without "intensive manpower" allocations. Berntsen deserves a good deal of respect and credit for his obvious service to the U. S. and his dedication to the cause of clandestine intelligence operations and its hand maiden covert operations. Yet this book is a terminally superficial and ill-considered work by someone who not only should know better, but could have produced a first rate `practical guide' to a counter-terrorism strategy.
