The dressing combines a Safetac soft silicone wound contact layer with an absorbent polyurethane foam pad that holds silver sulphate, so it manages exudate while the silver works against microbes in the dressing.

The silver component is designed to provide a rapid antimicrobial effect that begins within 30 minutes and sustained protection for up to seven days, depending on the wound and how much fluid it produces. The Safetac contact layer is intended to ease removal at dressing changes. The foam conforms to the body, which suits wounds that are difficult to dress.
