Overview of Othonna Capensis

Common Name: String of Rubies, Ruby Necklace, Little Pickles
Botanical Name: Othonna capensis
Family: Asteraceae
Type: Succulent
Mature Size: 2–12 inches long, 4–8 inches wide
Native Area: South Africa
Hardiness Zones: 9-11 (USDA)Othonna capensis, commonly known as the String of Rubies or Ruby Necklace, is a popular trailing succulent characterized by its vibrant, fleshy leaves that can turn a striking ruby red when exposed to bright sunlight. This plant is not only visually appealing but also relatively easy to care for, making it a favorite among succulent enthusiasts.

Care Instructions

Light Requirements

  • Ideal Exposure: Othonna capensis thrives in full sun to partial shade. It requires at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. Indoors, place it near a bright south-facing window or under strong grow lights to maintain its vibrant color.

Soil and Potting

  • Soil Type: Use a well-draining soil mix, such as cactus or succulent potting mix. A mixture of two parts succulent soil and one part perlite or pumice is ideal for excellent drainage.
  • Potting Tip: Ensure pots have drainage holes to prevent water accumulation.

Watering

  • Watering Schedule: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil is dry, typically every 1 to 3 weeks depending on environmental conditions.
  • Signs of Overwatering: Yellowing leaves or mushy stems indicate overwatering, which can lead to root rot.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Optimal Temperature: This succulent prefers temperatures between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C) and should not be exposed to temperatures below 50°F (10°C) for extended periods.
  • Humidity Needs: Othonna capensis thrives in low humidity environments typical of its native habitat.

Fertilization

  • Feeding Schedule: Fertilize sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted fertilizer low in nitrogen. Frequent fertilization is not necessary.

Common Issues

Pests

  • Othonna capensis can be susceptible to pests such as mealybugs and aphids. Regularly inspect the plant for signs of infestation and treat promptly if needed.

Worx very well!
Style: Lawn Edger w/(1) 4.0 Ah Battery
Worx very well. ;) More power than I expected from a 20v cordless machine. And with the 4Ahr battery it comes with, I was able to do the drive, walks, and patio without having to change batteries. I own 2 Worx string trimmers, chainsaw, hedge trimmer, drill impact driver, and leaf blower. Love them all.

will work, not for heavy duty
Style: Lawn Edger w/(1) 4.0 Ah Battery
Unbiased review. Box came heavily damaged, suspect previously opened item but not used. The contents seemed fine. Assembly was easy with directions. The battery power supply button, to dictate how much power is left, doesn't work well. This edger will work but the power to the blade is about 2/3 my electric model. I suggest using something different at first, then use this model to keep up. Battery power life is average. My opinion is the price is high for what you get. If the power matched my cheaper electric model then it would be easy to pay this price. Durability will come with time and I will post if this changes.

Right tool for the money
Style: Lawn Edger w/(1) 4.0 Ah Battery
Very impressed with this WORX Cordless Lawn Edger. My driveway have never been edged in over 30 years, this edger handled the job with ease, made a pass at one inch and then two inches. My driveway is 80 feet long, after the two passes I was left with one bar of battery power, great tool for the price. I would definitely recommend this product to any home owner that maintains their own yard.

Cute little bug that does its job. Good value.
Size: 17" (2 x 4.0Ah)
Not bad for the price. Pretty easy to set up (only user stupidity gave me any issues). Worked well for my first cut. Lasted about 32 minutes. I'm gonna give the batteries a more significant charge and try again, though I did charge for over 12 hours and the lights were solid green. So not sure what's going on there. I don't understand how "user technique" applies here, though I did hit a lot of hidden sticks. Could have burned through more energy? Idk. But it did handle those sticks like a champ! I made sure to get all the big ones out of the way, but there were some small ones and it just ran em right over good as any gas mower. I would probably play pickup sticks a little longer beforehand next time, but I was a little pressed for energy today. Anyways, irrespective of the actual function of the machine, I prefer this dramatically over either wider or self-propelled models. Self-propulsion can be very annoying when trying to get around difficult terrain or obstacles. I also enjoy the exercise! The small form factor is very nice again for obstacles or weaving between objects. It also is nice and light and easy to push. After 30+ minutes of mowing I'm not even remotely sore. I also enjoyed just getting to smell the fresh cut grass rather than belching gas smoke! I'm looking forward to low maintenance on this lil guy. The blades seem pretty well made, and I will be keeping an eye on them for wear and tear. I had a nice day outside in perfect weather with this little bug, and can recommend it if you're specifically looking for a smaller mower that lasts 30-40 mins on a charge and can deal with a push mower.
