Alocasia 'Ivory Coast'

Alocasia 'Ivory Coast' is a cultivated hybrid Alocasia with glossy dark green leaves, pale vein contrast and pinkish to grey-red petioles. The leaves rise from the base on upright stems, forming a tidy clump with arrow-shaped foliage held above coloured stems.

The sagittate blades show a clear contrast between darker blade tissue and lighter veins. The petioles stay visible above the pot, especially on young to medium-sized plants where the stems remain part of the overall look.

What to expect from Alocasia 'Ivory Coast'

  • Growth habit: Upright clumping Alocasia with leaves produced from the base.
  • Leaf shape: Arrow-shaped to sagittate blades with a glossy surface.
  • Leaf colour: Dark green blades with pale, silvery vein contrast.
  • Petioles: Pinkish to grey-red stems, often with darker streaking.
  • Container behaviour: Medium indoor Alocasia that needs stable moisture and a pot with enough weight for its upright leaf spread.
  • Hybrid background: Cultivated Alocasia hybrid.

Glossy blades and coloured petioles

Alocasia 'Ivory Coast' grows from a fleshy base with leaves held individually on upright petioles. New leaves usually emerge rolled and soft before firming into glossy, darker blades. The stems are part of the plant’s visible structure, so it needs enough space for the petioles to rise cleanly from the pot.

Firm leaf texture and fleshy Alocasia roots call for a substrate that holds light moisture while draining quickly. Heavy, compacted soil can stay wet around the roots for too long, especially in cooler indoor conditions.

Keeping Alocasia 'Ivory Coast' steady indoors

  • Light: Give bright filtered light. Direct midday sun can mark the glossy blades, while weak light can make petioles stretch and lean.
  • Watering: Keep the mix lightly and evenly moist, then water again when the upper layer has started to dry. Do not leave the pot sitting in water.
  • Substrate: Use an airy aroid mix with bark, mineral aggregate and moisture-holding fibres so water moves through the root zone quickly.
  • Temperature: Keep warm and stable. Cold wet substrate can damage Alocasia roots quickly.
  • Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity helps new leaves unfurl cleanly, especially during active growth.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly while the plant is producing new leaves. Skip heavy doses on a stressed or recently shipped plant.
  • Potting: Choose a pot that balances the upright petioles. A very light pot can tip once the leaves size up.
  • Leaf care: Wipe dust from the glossy blades and check petiole bases and leaf undersides during routine pest checks.

Troubleshooting Alocasia 'Ivory Coast'

  • Drooping leaves: Often linked to dry substrate, root stress or a recent move. Check moisture before watering again.
  • Yellowing leaves: Usually points to wet roots, cold substrate or an older leaf being shed after new growth starts.
  • Brown edges: Can appear after irregular watering, dry indoor air or root stress.
  • Leaning petioles: The plant may be reaching toward one-sided light. Rotate the pot gradually rather than moving it into direct sun.
  • Pests: Spider mites, mealybugs and scale can settle on Alocasia leaves and petiole joints. Inspect the undersides closely.

Safety for Alocasia 'Ivory Coast'

Alocasia 'Ivory Coast' is toxic if chewed. Like other Alocasia, it contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals that can affect the mouth, throat and stomach of pets and people. Keep it away from cats, dogs and small children.

Hybrid background for Alocasia 'Ivory Coast'

Alocasia 'Ivory Coast' traces to the patented hybrid 'ALO1', selected from a cultivated cross involving Alocasia 'Aurora' and a lowii-line Alocasia parent.

Alocasia 'Ivory Coast' brings dark glossy blades, pale veins and coloured petioles together in one upright clumping plant.

Comfortable, Light Weight, Good Looking
Delivered quickly, exactly as pictured. The shirt fits well. I like the sweater bottom as opposed to a normal t-shirt bottom. The shirt looks dressier. A good value. I'd buy again.

Great Quality Shirt That Looks More Expensive
Color: Cream, Size: Medium
This is my 2nd COOFANDY purchase for my husbands wardrobe! Really impressed with this Knit Button Down Textured Polo Shirt. The material feels soft and breathable, and the textured design gives it a more elevated look than a basic polo. It fits well, looks great dressed up or casual, and is perfect for vacations, dinners, or summer events. Excellent quality for the price.
