Epazote (Dysphania ambrosioides, formerly Chenopodium ambrosioides), also known as Mexican tea or wormseed, is a unique perennial herb native to Central and South America. This aromatic, wormwood-like plant has been a staple in traditional Mexican and Central American cooking for centuries. Known for its bold, pungent flavor, organic epazote is prized for enhancing bean dishes, especially black beans, and is traditionally believed to help reduce gas-causing compounds during cooking.
Note: Epazote (wormseed) was formerly classified as Chenopodium ambrosioides, but is now correctly identified as Dysphania ambrosioides based on updated botanical taxonomy. Both names refer to the same plant.
