Traditionally used for its anti-inflammatory properties and to support joint health.
Yucca filamentosa, commonly known as Adam’s Needle, is a striking evergreen perennial prized for its architectural form and resilience in poor soils. Native to the southeastern United States, this hardy plant features rosettes of stiff, sword-like leaves edged with curly white threads and produces tall, dramatic spikes of creamy white bell-shaped flowers in summer. Beyond its ornamental value, Yucca filamentosa has been traditionally used in herbal medicine, especially by Indigenous peoples, for its anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties.
Well-suited to xeriscaping and drought-tolerant gardens, Adam’s Needle thrives in sandy, well-drained soil and full sun. It’s a low-maintenance plant once established, capable of withstanding heat, drought, and neglect—making it ideal for tough garden spots. Its bold texture adds visual interest to rock gardens, borders, and dry landscapes. Whether grown for its beauty or medicinal value, this long-lived perennial is a unique and valuable addition to any garden.
