Poppy - Lauren's Dark Grape Papaver paeoniflorum & laciniatum

Annual - Absolutely stunning 4 - 5" chalice-shaped flowers with satiny petals that glow in the most delicious shade of deep ruby-purple. These outstanding, heirloom poppies grow 3 - 5' tall, depending on how rich your soil is. With their big, lettuce-like, blue-gray leaves and port wine colored flowers, Lauren's Grape is a highlight of the spring garden. These beautiful flowers easily self sow to shine again every season.

Soil & Water:Sow seeds directly into a finely textured, well-drained garden bed in full sun as early in spring as the ground can be worked. Keep soil moist as seedlings emerge. When mature, poppy plants can handle dry conditions, but they will always bloom longer if regularly watered.

Planting & Growing: Plant poppies in late fall or very early spring directly into the garden. In cold climates, seeds will overwinter and germinate when soil thaws. Blossoms and pods are largest when plants grow in cool weather; seedlings are very cold hard. In a well-worked, finely textured seedbed in full sun, sprinkle seeds as thinly as possible or sow in rows 8 - 10" apart. Mixing dry sand with the seeds will help space them. Rake in gently or lightly cover seeds 1/8" deep and keep seedbed moist until seedlings emerge in 7 - 14 days. If seedlings come up too thick, thin poppies early, but delay final thinning to 6 - 8" apart until weather has settled in spring. At season's end, allow spent flowers to form pods and drop seed if you want poppies to self-sow for next year's spring flowers.

Poor durability
My 15lb dog destroyed this within a couple hours. He is small but a might chewer. Not chew proof. The end pieces came off easily which could be a choking hazard. He loved it, the idea is good, but it did not last. If you get it, supervise your dog, only allow for short "teeth brushing" chew time.

Good for medium and large dogs not good for small dogs
Too big for dogs under 15 pounds. Treats are hard to get out of the four corners. My dog can barely pick this up. She weighs 12 pounds. She still found it interesting though trying to dig the treats out that she was unsuccessful. Even after I cut all the little triangle prongs off the four corners the treats are still stuck in there. There is a slot on the side that I can put half of a dental refill in the side and she can eventually get it out so there’s still somewhat of play and challenge received, but not that satisfied to me.
