Cette plante saisonnière atteint environ 30 cm de hauteur pour 20 cm de largeur. Très florifère, elle possède un feuillage vert vif, finement découpé et légèrement poilu, dégageant un parfum d’agrume reconnu pour son effet répulsif contre les moustiques.

La floraison s’étend de mai jusqu’aux premières gelées. Les fleurs sont simples, de couleur rose et blanc.
