The Monstera deliciosa albo variegata, as its “monstrous” name implies, is a very large plant with very large leaves. These leaves are made to soak up the sunlight through the leaves of other trees in the jungles of Mexico and Panama, and the leaves of this variegated version look particularly stunning while they do it. A milky white that almost looks like paint spreads across a large portion of each leaf, often creating a half-green, half-white pattern.

Unlike some other Monsteras, Monstera deliciosa albo variegata can tolerate bright, indirect light as well as low lighting conditions, although it can’t put up with direct sunlight for too long. They are also pretty easy-going when it comes to watering: whereas most houseplants can’t handle overwatering or underwatering, this one is fairly good at tolerating both extremes.

Other requirements for this beautiful “beast” are well-draining soil and repotting whenever its roots get too crowded. It may also need stakes to help support its large stalks.

One thing to note is that, while its white/green leaves are gorgeous, pure white ones can be a sign that it needs pruning. These leaves won’t last long due to a lack of chlorophyll, and you don’t want a plant covered in dead leaves. To combat this, make sure you properly maintain the plant and nip excessive white leaves in the bud.
