Epipremnum aureum ‘Marble Queen’, commonly known as the Marble Queen Pothos, is one of the most decorative cultivars of the classic Golden Pothos. Belonging to the Araceae family and native to the Solomon Islands, it is loved worldwide for its lush, trailing habit and striking variegated foliage.

The ‘Marble Queen’ variety is characterised by its heart-shaped leaves marbled in creamy white and green. The variegation varies from leaf to leaf, with some heavily splashed in white while others retain more green, giving the plant a dynamic and ever-changing appearance. Its compact, bushy growth habit makes it equally attractive in hanging baskets, trained onto moss poles, or cascading from shelves.

Like all pothos, ‘Marble Queen’ is a hardy, forgiving plant, making it a perfect choice for both beginners and seasoned plant collectors. Its air-purifying properties and eye-catching variegation ensure it remains one of the most popular indoor houseplants.

Epipremnum aureum ‘Marble Queen’ – Care Guide

Light

Best in bright, indirect light to maintain its creamy variegation. Tolerates medium light, though the leaves may develop more green and less white in lower light conditions. Avoid strong direct sun, which can scorch the foliage.

Watering

Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out before watering again. Water thoroughly, letting excess drain away, and avoid leaving the plant sitting in water. Overwatering is the most common issue and may lead to root rot. In winter, reduce watering frequency.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Thrives in 18–26°C. Keep away from cold draughts and avoid prolonged exposure below 12°C.

  • Humidity: Tolerant of average indoor humidity but grows best with moderate to high humidity. Mist occasionally or place near a humidifier to keep leaves fresh.

Soil and Potting

Use a well-draining houseplant compost mixed with perlite or orchid bark for aeration. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the soil and encourage healthy growth.

Feeding

Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Feeding is unnecessary in winter.

Pruning and Training

Prune back long vines to encourage bushier growth. ‘Marble Queen’ can be grown as a trailing plant or trained to climb a moss pole or trellis for larger leaves. Stem cuttings root easily in water or soil for propagation.

Growth and Maturity

A moderately fast grower, producing vines up to several metres long indoors. Variegation may become less pronounced if grown in low light, but bright conditions will maintain its marbled patterns.

Common Issues

  • Yellowing leaves: Often due to overwatering.

  • Loss of variegation: Caused by insufficient light.

  • Leggy growth: A sign that the plant is stretching for more light.

  • Pests: Occasionally mealybugs, thrips, or spider mites.

Background and Benefits

The Marble Queen cultivar has been a favourite for decades, offering a classic twist on the beloved Golden Pothos with its creamy-white marbled leaves. Hardy, adaptable, and endlessly decorative, it is a staple in plant collections and interior styling worldwide.

High quality product.
Warmth? I’m not sure what that means. I make a simple dish out of these, some milk, butter and salt and pepper—then I “warm” it up. They’re a little pricey but the quality and taste/flavor is great. I would definitely buy them again.

Good and can be used in many dishes.
These are pretty good mussels they have not been smoked or anything added to it but mussels, water and salt. Since they are packed like that, you can use them in a variety of dishes. I would buy them again but only when they're on sale because they are pricey.

Meaty and flavorful
I ate these straight from the tin at room temperature, sometimes sopping up the extra liquid with decent bread. I purchased these because I wanted to try an alternative to the King Oscar. I've tried a couple different kinds of mackerel over the years, and while the King Oscar has been the best I find their olive oil varieties to be a bit acrid. Not so with these Otter Kingdom fillets. Theses are actual fillets, so they are larger and meatier, and in my experience they have a looser grain than the mackerel I'm used to. They are high-quality, so I'm not detecting any bones and there's no formaldehyde-flavor, no imperfections in the cut. The oil is quite thin/watery and fairly small in volume. This isn't an issue for me, if anything I'd say it's welcome as it doesn't overpower the fish. These make a great compliment to my tinned fish rotation, which includes tuna, squid/octopus, sardines, cod liver, oysters, and sometimes sprats, salmon, and trout. The price is better than King Oscar, so I can have it more regularly without feeling like I'm being immoderate. Would recommend.

Excellent quality, but close to expiry date
I am basically repeating what another reviewer said in 2024, that the quality of these mackerel fillets is excellent except the expiry date of the case I received is only 6 months away, whereas similar products are shipping with expiry dates 4 years away. And my review comes 2 years after the one in 2024, so apparently this has not changed. Otherwise, I would definitely have given 5 stars. Regardless, I went ahead and ordered more, because that is how tasty they are and selling at a good price.
