Oh my goodness, have you seen the Haworthia coarctata, now reclassified as Haworthiopsis coarctata? It's an absolutely adorable variety of the Haworthia genus! This coarctata species name, which means "compressed" or "pressed together" in Latin, refers to the tightly-packed leaves that wrap around its stem-like Mother Nature's embrace.

This slow-growing flowering succulent, with its dark green leaves boasting white ribbing, will steal your heart from the moment you lay your eyes on it. But don't let its demure appearance fool you; when exposed to strong sunlight, these leaves can turn into deep brown or purplish-red hues that most people love.

Its long stems stand tall with short curved leaves packed tightly around them - so densely that people often confuse it with Haworthia reinwardtii. However, coarctata has wider and fatter leaves that give it a more robust look. At full maturity, this low maintenance plant can reach up to 8 inches in height and produce a 12-inch flower stalk in spring or summer - talk about impressive!

Native to South Africa's Eastern Cape, this haworthia succulent is perfect for putting in decorating pots.

Watering Needs

Although haworthia succulents are commonly associated with desert environments, some varieties such as the Haworthia coarctata prefer to be watered using the "soak and dry" technique. This involves thoroughly watering the plant before allowing it to completely dry out between watering sessions.

Both potted and outdoor haworthia should receive a deep soak once or twice a month during their growth periods, ensuring proper drainage so that the roots don't become waterlogged.

Avoid watering your outdoor haworthia plant when it's raining or during winter months.

Light Requirements

The Haworth coarctata can flourish in hot and sunny conditions, needing a minimum of 5-6 hours of bright, indirect light daily, but can tolerate some direct sunlight.

Too much direct sunlight can cause the leaves to burn, so it's important to provide shade during the hottest part of the day. If this haworthia succulent is not receiving enough bright light, it can cause discoloration, an elongated abnormal appearance, as well as limit its growth.

When grown indoors, place it in the sunniest place in your house. This succulent may benefit from shade in consistently hot climates. It is ideal to grow this Haworthia coarctata in a west- or south-facing window.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

The Haworthia coarctata prefers sandy, well-drained soil, as excess moisture can promote root and stem rot. Planet Desert specializes in succulents and has specialized succulent potting soil that includes an organic substrate with mycorrhizae to help with the growth of a healthy root system to help your succulents thrive. As an okay alternative, you can create your own potting mix by combining equal portions of perlite, coarse sand, and good natural potting soil.

And let's not forget about fertilizing! Your haworthias only need a tiny bit applied once a year in springtime with a natural organic fertilizer that has lower doses of NPK (5-10-5). No harsh chemicals here, folks - just pure, natural goodness that lasts longer and encourages nutrient absorption, so your succulent stays happy as a clam.

Hardiness Zones & More

keep this Haworthia coarctata at warm temperatures, 65-75 F at all times. It doesn't like humidity because it is adapted to a dry, hot climate.

It is an outdoor tropical succulent that can be grown in USDA zones 10 and 11. In cooler zones, it can be kept outdoors during the summer and brought in as the temperature drops to protect it from freezing temperatures.

Be sure to add this Haworthia coarctata to your home or garden and enjoy its low-maintenance care while admiring its impressive display year after year.

What I should have bought long ago
Color: Black
Finally! The remote isn’t constantly slipping out of people’s hands or falling inside the couch. I should have thought to buy this years ago. Comfortable- yes. Grippy - yes. Doesn’t get lost anymore. It’s durable/well made. It was the color I expected and looked better than I expected. Great product and price!

Would be 5 stars if it glowed brighter
Color: blue-glow, Color: blue-glow
SHORT VERSION Yes buy this! Just don’t expect it to glow very bright. COLOR I thought about getting the Black, Navy, or Mint Green, but instead I got the ZBlue bc of the glow-in-the-dark feature. I like it, but it doesn’t glow that bright when exposed to a light bulb. You can see the pic I posted that’s almost black, that’s after holding it next to a bright light for a few minutes. But when I exposed it to the sunshine through a window for a few minutes, it glowed MUCH brighter (see the other glow pic). But, how are you going to expose it to the sun when its dark outside? When my wife first saw the color, she said “that’s stupid” haha. But I think it’s growing on her. For these photos, I put it on a white background, with DeWalt Yellow and Kobalt Blue next to it so you can see it’s true color. I wouldn’t buy this for its glowing feature, just buy the color you like. Even at night, there’s usually too much ambient light in the room, from the TV or lamps, for this faint glow to be seen. FIT & FEEL It feels like super soft silicone rubber, I like it. Feels very high quality. The remote slid in really easy, and I thought it might be too big, and the remote would fall out, but it hasn’t. The texture feels great, and the thicker pads on top and bottom help you hold onto the remote. It doesn’t slide between the couch cushions anymore, and that’s really why I bought it! An added bonus is that now I can immediately see which side is the top of the remote! Before, I sometimes hit the wrong button bc I wouldn’t realize I was holding the remote upside down. Overall, I’m definitely glad I bought this.

Fantastic Fintie: Saving My Apple Remote
Not a lot to say about this little case other than I absolutely love it! The red is a great color and somewhat matches the general color theme of my TV area. I don't have the smallest hands around and often worried about dropping this (very expensive) remote. I was so afraid of my Apple TV remote slipping and breaking, getting lost, etc that I actually wrapped it up in a microfiber cloth whenever I wasn't using it. On top of that I often picked it up upside-down which is easy for me to do as I'm partially blind and didn't always feel for either the volume button, top sensor, or lightning port to orient it properly. I'd be swiping on the bottom, thinking it's the top, until I realized with chagrin that I had been touching the inert piece of plastic that is the bottom third of the remote's face for the last five seconds while wondering why my Apple TV wasn't talking to me or making any noise the way it was supposed to. This case solves all of these problems. The remote is easy to hold onto, I don't feel like it'll get easily lost, and I never mess up its orientation anymore. Nice job, Finty. Edit as of March 10, 2020 I saw the helpful votes this review has received, so I figured I'd post an update for you guys! I always appreciate reviews that keep potential buyers up to date, giving them an idea of how a product holds up over time. I got this little case 3 years ago. It's still doing great! It still serves its purpose beautifully and I am very happy with it! It's traveled with me and my Apple TV from home to a college dorm room and to vacations too! It hasn't stretched out and still holds the remote secure. Visually, it makes the remote easier to find and tactually it's easier for me to orient so I don't swipe ineffectually on the wrong end of the remote like I did before.

Much Easier to Handle
Color: Black
First let me say that I didn't want to have to buy a case for my remote. It's such a beautiful device that I hate to hide it but unfortunately I have to because it's just not very practical to use. First, it's so slim that it's hard to pick up from a flat surface. Second, it's so slippery that I was afraid it would fall out of my hands. And third, I have tile floors so if it ever fell, I know it would shatter. The Fintie case solves all of these problems. It gives the remote just the right amount of thickness and grippiness to make it easy to pick up and use, and I feel like it if ever fell onto my tile floor, the Fintie case would protect it from chips and shatters. Admittedly, the case does detract from the beauty of the remote, but it does make the remote more usable day-to-day. And in a sense it protects the beauty of the remote because a shattered one wouldn't look very nice now would it?
