Dracaena reflexa var. angustifolia 'Magenta'

Dracaena reflexa var. angustifolia 'Magenta' is a red-edged dragon tree cultivar with slim green leaves and vivid magenta margins. The colour sits along the leaf edge, so the plant keeps a narrow outline while adding a strong red-purple accent.

Its growth comes from slender woody canes that carry tufts of pointed leaves at their tips. As the stems lengthen, the plant develops a light tree-like silhouette with space between the foliage heads. Cutting back a tall cane can restart growth lower on the stem and help maintain a fuller indoor shape.

  • Leaf colour: Deep green blades edged with reddish-magenta margins.
  • Growth habit: Slim woody canes with narrow leaf tufts at the tips.
  • Indoor size control: Can be pruned to manage height and encourage branching.
  • Container outline: Red-edged foliage on narrow canes keeps the plant slim in a pot.

Red-Margined Leaves on Woody Canes

This cultivar belongs to Dracaena reflexa var. angustifolia, the western Indian Ocean dragon-tree variety formerly known as Dracaena marginata. The variety’s natural form is a shrub or tree, and 'Magenta' keeps that cane-forming structure indoors on a smaller scale.

The narrow leaves show their strongest colour along the margins. Bright filtered light keeps new leaves firmer, while overly harsh sun can scorch the leaf surface. The stems and leaves tolerate short dry spells, but constant wetness around the roots can lead to soft stems and root decline.

Care for a Red-Edged Dragon Tree

  • Light: Use bright indirect light near a window; introduce any direct sun slowly and avoid hot midday exposure.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly after the upper part of the mix has dried, then keep the saucer empty.
  • Potting: Choose a pot with drainage and avoid large jumps in pot size after repotting.
  • Temperature: Keep the plant above cool draughts, with steady indoor warmth around 18–27 °C.
  • Substrate: A mineral-aerated mix helps protect the roots from long wet periods.
  • Pruning: Shorten tall canes in spring or summer for easier regrowth and shape recovery.
  • Humidity: Average home humidity is acceptable, but a very dry room can make leaf tips crisp.
  • Feeding: Apply a diluted balanced fertiliser during active growth, then pause or reduce feeding in winter.

Colour and Root-Zone Troubleshooting

  • Dull new leaves: Move gradually into brighter filtered light if the plant has been kept far from a window.
  • Brown tips: Check for dry air, mineral buildup, hard water or fertiliser excess before changing the whole care routine.
  • Soft stems: Remove the plant from wet substrate and inspect the roots if a cane loses firmness.
  • Dry, bleached patches: Shift away from direct sun that hits the same leaves for several hours.
  • Small pests: Look for spider mites, scale or mealybugs on leaf bases and along older stems.

Safety for Pets

Dracaena reflexa var. angustifolia 'Magenta' is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep the plant out of reach and remove fallen leaves, especially in homes with pets that chew foliage.

Botanical Background

Dracaena comes from Greek drakaina, meaning female dragon. The species epithet reflexa means bent back sharply, and angustifolia means narrow-leaved. Dracaena marginata is an older synonym of Dracaena reflexa var. angustifolia.

Dracaena reflexa var. angustifolia 'Magenta' has slim canes, defined height and red-edged foliage in a narrow potted form.

Finally a printer sold for the user, not the person who sells ink!!
Style: All-in-One Printer
Independent and Transparent ink refill reservoirs means no more replacing tri-color cartridge when only 1 of three is depleted. Much less ink waste! And you can just look at the printer and know how much ink is left. Brilliant. No more solid black plastic cartridges. Did not need to waste ink on a test page!! wat?! First print was a full multi-color page and didn't see ink get sucked up like a water spout; and it printed really, really fast and great color brilliance and and and... I'm so glad I spent the extra on this for my home use. I might even start printing photos for framing again. Set up was a touch time consuming (30 minutes? ) but very well instructed via the mobile app. Most of the time was just waiting for the ink to get into the printer - I think around 8 minutes?. Typically I hate that everyone wants you to download an app. I think this one was worth it. Fun extra print features. Usually I think all that is really dumb but this stuff is actually useful.

Great all around printer !
Style: All-in-One Printer, Style: All-in-One Printer
Awesome printer ! The software was a bit cumbersome at first for pc so make sure your pc and anti-virus ate updated and restart your pc and it should be a piece of cake . The ink is super easy to fill, no spills and every color spout is different so you really can't accidentally use the wrong color . It is a little bit on the loud side but not enough to complain about or remove a star especially at this price point . It's a very good price considering the amount of ink it comes with .

Great value, easy set up!
Style: All-in-One Printer
So far I give this Epson Eco Tank ET-2400 a five star review. It was very easy to set up. I bought for printing some legal documents as well as personal ones. The scan feature on this epson printer is amazing. Over the last several days I have been working to upload family photos that were in a bin my mom kept that we have had from well before I was born. These photos some of them are from the 1940's. I have been able to upload probably a thousand photos so far and still am only half way through. The espon scansmart app is amazing as well. I have been uploading up to 6 photos at once depending on the size, crop them and then save them all in a few easy steps. The app is able to detect the photos very quickly and separate them perfectly. I'm so glad I bought this print and I believe the ink will last as long as they claim. Would definitely recommend to family/friends.

Easy to use, Prints great!

Full disclosure, I own a Epson Ecotank at home and I bought this one for my business. I do not print a lot otherwise I would’ve bought a laser printer. For someone who doesn’t do a lot of printing it’s perfect. It prints photos flawlessly as you see in my photo I printed a photo of my grandson. I would say even if your print needs are in the middle this would be a great printer. It doesn’t use much ink at all. And now you can find off brand ink for a fraction of the price of name brand.

Good Printer Imposible Instructions.
Style: All-in-One Printer
Received the printer yesterday and began the process of setting it up. First I needed to download the software and drivers. That's when the pain began. I understand wireless printers and shared network printers. In this case, I wanted to connect the printer to our home wireless network so different computers could access it. The User's Guide spends a little time on a "Wireless Direct" setup where you connect your computer wirelessly directly to the printer, but little time on a LAN printer setup. After loading all the software and drivers, I finally got the printer connected to my LAN, but it took a number of false starts and trial and errors to get the printer on the LAN to be visible to my laptop. There are essentially zero instructions about this in the user's guide. Eventually I got it to print on my laptop. Then I needed to hook it up to my wife's laptop. Again, no instructions on connecting multiple computers to the printer over a LAN. I did know enough to "share" the printer in the printer settings. I eventually installed the complete software and driver package on wife's laptop. When trying to connect wirelessly, I kept getting error codes. After a few hours, I defaulted to the USB cable installation method. Now I could at least complete the installation without errors. When I went to the list of printers on the laptop I saw the epson, but it said "offline". I think that's because what I was seeing was the USB instance of the printer, not the LAN version. I finally went to Device Manager and found a second instance of the epson printer marked "Network". I was able to make this the default and the printer would now print from both laptops. Only about 3 hours more to get a second laptop to print. Since the Epson EP 2400 is a home printer and likely to be set up for wireless operation, it should take a visit by the Geek squad to get it up and running. Epson should be ashamed of their manual and instructions. Now that it's working, it does seem to print well although a bit slow.
