Anthurium Decurrens

A botanically notable lowland Amazonian epiphyte described by Eduard Poeppig and placed by Croat, Lingán, and Hayworth (2005) into the newly erected section Decurrentia — a small, tightly defined group of closely related Amazonian species united by their short internodes, elongated epunctate leaf blades, and winged or ridged peduncles. Native to a range spanning southern Colombia through Ecuador and Peru's Amazon basin provinces to Brazil's Acre state, it grows in lowland wet tropical forest at modest elevations of roughly 225-440 meters, making it a warm-growing species by anthurium standards and distinct from the high-elevation cloud forest species that dominate the collector velvet anthurium market. The common name "Walking Anthurium" references the plant's characteristic epiphytic behavior — its aerial roots and short-internode climbing habit allow it to advance across the surfaces it colonizes in the way that defines many epiphytic aroids. The leaves are elongated, narrowly oblanceolate to somewhat obovate, tapering prominently toward the base in the decurrent fashion that gives the species its name — the leaf base running downward along the petiole and stem in a distinctive way that is the defining character of section Decurrentia. The blade surface is semi-glossy to glossy green with clear, parallel-patterned primary lateral venation and characteristically wavy leaf margins, giving the foliage a clean, architectural quality that stands apart from the velvety or corrugated textures of more widely collected anthurium species.

As a lowland Amazonian species, this anthurium prefers consistently warm temperatures in the 65-80°F range without the significant nighttime temperature drops that benefit many highland species. Provide medium to bright indirect light — the glossy leaf surface is more tolerant of reasonable light levels than velvet-surfaced species but benefits from protection against direct harsh sun. Keep the medium evenly moist with excellent drainage in a rich, well-draining mix; never allow waterlogging. Humidity of 60-80% supports the best growth. Feed monthly with a balanced diluted liquid fertilizer during active growth. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.

Lasted a few months
This is our last picture of the rooster, as he is being set to the trash today, because new rooster is on its way!! Yes, your dog will rip the face off and pull some stuffing out quickly. Let him. I was amazed this tore up toy lasted so long. If your dog likes to dig out the squeakers, this is the perfect one of the Go Dog toys, because it has SEVEN squeakers inside, whereas the duck only has one squeaker. Bella (in the pic) is the epic chewer, and this was a good toy for her. It took her a few months to get all the squeakers out. She loves her rooster. She sleeps with it and is very attached to it. It is worth the investment.

🐔 Best chikum toy, my puppers love it.
We have two small dogs and they both love this chicken. We are on our 2nd one, it's not indestructible, but built tough and they love all the squeakers. 1st one lasted a little over 2 months, which is a long time for a beloved toy to hold up in this house. I too love this chicken, I mean just look at its funny expression. It's fun to watch these two play with it and I chuckle when I find it in different parts of the house with a startled expression on its face. It seems to say, how did I get here?! What's happening?!

Best dog toys ever. They outlast and are more appealing to my dogs than those that guarantee long life.
We have been buying goDog products from our veterinarian. It takes, literally, years for the dogs to kill them completely. The big toys, such as the chicken, die faster, but even the little mutt loves it. Now the good part: half the price of our veterinarian. Not that I don't want to support them, but $27 bucks for a chicken doomed to die at some point, seems ridiculous. Some of the small sizes are already 4 years old, but the chicken doesn't come in small. Even when they worked at it until the squeaker was dead, the rest of the chicken survived more than a year of constant dragging and tugging. It washed up very good, but we did have to occasionally stitch up larger holes to prevent washing machine loss of stuffing.

My dogs love this
My dogs love this stinking toy. I’m about to buy another one though bc they are tearing it up. But overall they are pretty rough with it and suckle on it. I didn’t think this would be such a hit for them but I’m ok with repurchasing it for the amount of love they have for this!

Almost worked!
I have an EXTREMELY destructive Boston Terrier. She loves playing with her toys, but she loves destroying them even more. "Chicken" was her Christmas present and she loved him. She did pull his eyes off right away, fortunately she didn't swallow them, but I was excited that she couldn't immediately shred him. Then she found his weak spot. She managed to grab hold of the tag and tore the seam, and now she just plays with Chicken's torn up husk. He lasted 3 days, which was longer than any other stuffed animal. I would purchase again, but I would cut the tag as short as I could before giving it to her. It was a good run, but I'm still looking for a soft you she can't destroy!
