Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Variegata’ is a highly sought-after tropical climbing aroid, prized for its striking cream-and-green marbled foliage and fast-growing nature. Native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, this variegated form of Epipremnum pinnatum is a showpiece of elegance and easy-care beauty.

The long, glossy leaves are splashed with creamy-white and pale green variegation, creating a marbled, painterly effect that becomes more pronounced as the plant matures. With proper support, the leaves develop dramatic fenestrations (splits) and can grow impressively large, giving the plant a bold, sculptural form reminiscent of a Monstera.

Perfect for trailing or climbing, Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Variegata’ adds light, movement, and sophistication to any indoor jungle — a must-have for collectors of rare tropical plants.

Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Variegata’ – Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light, which helps maintain its creamy-white variegation. Too little light may cause leaves to turn greener, while too much direct sunlight can scorch the pale areas. East- or west-facing windows are ideal.

Watering

Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Ensure the pot has good drainage. During winter, reduce watering slightly but never let the soil dry out completely.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Prefers warmth, 20–28°C. Avoid cold draughts and temperatures below 15°C.

  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity (50–80%) keeps the foliage glossy and prevents browning on the variegated sections. Mist regularly or use a humidifier if air is dry.

Soil and Potting

Use a chunky, free-draining aroid mix — peat-free compost blended with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the mix and promote steady growth.

Feeding

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser, diluted to half strength. Avoid overfeeding, especially in cooler months.

Pruning and Maintenance

Prune to shape or to encourage bushier growth. Remove yellowing or damaged leaves. Clean the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to maintain their shine and highlight the marbling. Train the plant up a moss pole or coir totem to encourage vertical growth and larger, fenestrated leaves.

Growth and Maturity

A vigorous climber, reaching 1.5–3 metres indoors when given support. Juvenile leaves are narrow and simple, but as the plant matures and climbs, they develop deep splits and increased variegation.

Common Issues

  • Loss of variegation: Insufficient light.

  • Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or compacted soil.

  • Brown tips: Low humidity or inconsistent watering.

  • Pests: Occasionally thrips, mealybugs, or spider mites — wipe leaves and monitor regularly.

Background and Benefits

Epipremnum pinnatum is a native tropical species found throughout Asia and the Pacific, where it grows as an epiphyte climbing tall trees. The ‘Variegata’ cultivar is distinguished by its beautiful, creamy-white marbling, making it one of the most visually striking and collectible members of the genus.

In addition to its exotic looks, this plant is also known for its air-purifying qualities, helping to remove toxins from indoor air while adding natural brightness and energy to your home.

Quick Care Summary

  • Light: Bright, indirect; avoid direct sun

  • Water: Lightly moist; allow topsoil to dry slightly

  • Temperature: 20–28°C; protect below 15°C

  • Humidity: Moderate to high (50–80%)

  • Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix

  • Feed: Every 4–6 weeks in spring/summer

  • Growth: Fast-growing climbing or trailing plant, 1.5–3 m; glossy green leaves marbled with creamy-white variegation

⚠️ Toxicity Note: Like all Epipremnum species, ‘Variegata’ is toxic if ingested and may irritate the skin. Keep away from pets and children.

🌿 Styling Tip:
Showcase your Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Variegata’ climbing up a moss pole to highlight its fenestrated leaves, or let it cascade naturally from a high shelf for a tropical waterfall effect. Its creamy variegation pairs beautifully with darker foliage plants such as Philodendron ‘Micans’ or Ficus ‘Abidjan’.

Will definitely get more for my pig ear loving boy!
Flavor Name: Pig Ear, Size: 8 Count (Pack of 1)
My shar pei mix baby LOVES these! He is about 4 months old, teething and always has food on the brain. These do the trick! One ear lasts him about 2 days if he is really going at it, sometimes longer. He will work on it for hours at a time. They have little to no smell. He chews them on his white dog bed and they leave no stains or marks. I love that there aren't any extra ingredients so I know exactly what he is ingesting. I will DEFINITELY be buying more of these!

Is Milo allergic to pig ears?
Flavor Name: Pig Ear, Size: 10 Count (Pack of 1)
Milo sniffed the pig ear, paused, and then took it to his spot to eat it. A few minutes later he started rubbing his head on the floor. I also bought the cow ears and he ate them with no problem. I’ve snuck him the occasional piece of bacon so I don’t think he’s allergic to pork. I love and trust Nature Gnaws.

    Great quality!
Flavor Name: Pig Ear, Size: 8 Count (Pack of 1)
I do not review items very often, but after considering that I have ordered these no less than 30 times, I decided it was time. I have four dogs who absolutely love them, so I go through them pretty quickly. They are generally very large, with occasionally one smaller one in the bag. These are the best price/quantity pigs ears I have been able to find. Each bag has eight ears. My dogs range in size from a (very food-motivated) mini dachshund to a pit bull, so the treats are good for any size. I order them for my sister’s and my boyfriend’s dogs, and my boyfriend breaks them in half to give to his dog if you don’t want them to have the whole one all at once. Would highly recommend!

Best pigs ears on the market!
    Size: Slivers (1.8 Pounds)
These are the best and biggest pigs ears on the market. I give my dogs 1 per day and they know exactly when it’s coming. They are, by far, their favorite treat. They’re not too stinky or greasy.
