It was among the first European flowers grown in American gardens, and was valued for its seedpods and edible roots. Seeing the small purple flowers on April 25, 1767, Jefferson remarked, "Lunaria still in bloom, an indifferent flower." Direct sow seeds outdoors once the soil can be worked in early spring. The plants will form a mound of foliage the first year, and will bloom the following spring. Approximately 45-50 seeds per packet.
