How to care for an Alocasia Zebrina

Watering Alocasia Zebrina

Alocasia Zebrina prefers even moisture in its potting soil, but doesn't tolerate wet feet. Water about once a week, and check before watering whether the top layer of soil feels slightly dry. Preferably use lukewarm, filtered water or rainwater. Looking for the best potting soil? Check out our potting soil for alocasia for optimal root growth.

Light requirements Alocasia Zebrina

This plant requires bright, indirect light to show off its stems and leaves to their full potential. Direct sunlight can burn the leaves, while too little light stunts growth and fades leaf color. Place your Alocasia indoors a few meters from a window and rotate it occasionally for even growth. Consider combining it with a Monstera minima in your urban jungle at deplantrekkers.com/products/monstera-minima.

Is an Alocasia Zebrina poisonous?

Unfortunately, Alocasia zebrina is poisonous to humans and pets if ingested. The sharp calcium oxalate crystals in the leaves can cause irritation and swelling in the mouth and throat. Keep children and pets away and always wash your hands after handling. For non-toxic alternatives, see our collection of non-toxic houseplants.

Frequently occurring problems

Yellow leaf

Yellowing leaves can indicate either too much water or too little nutrients. Check the moisture in the potting soil and adjust your watering routine. Fertilizing once a month with an organic fertilizer can prevent nutrient deficiencies.

Plant dripping

If water droplets emerge from the leaf base, this is guttation and is usually harmless. This is how the Alocasia removes excess moisture in high humidity. Ensure adequate air circulation to prevent mold growth.

Plagues

Spider mites, thrips, and aphids can attack Alocasia during dry periods. Inspect the undersides of the leaves regularly and treat any infestations with a natural insect spray or browse our range of sticky traps to repel fungus gnats. A mild soapy solution will keep the plant healthy.

Roots growing out of the pot

When roots protrude from the bottom of the pot, it's time to repot. Choose a pot one size larger and use fresh alocasia potting soil for optimal root development. Do this preferably in spring for optimal growth.

Brown edges

Brown edges are often caused by overly dry air or irregular watering. Increase the humidity around your Alocasia using a plant mister or place a bowl of water nearby. Also, use a moss stick to lightly moisten the leaves and carefully trim away any brown edges.

For additional inspiration, combine the Alocasia with a Monstera deliciosa or give your space a playful touch with a Dracaena marginata . To read all about potting soil, visit our potting soil and accessories category.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5

A good read
Format: Kindle
Multiple points of view. 3 Alpha men and an Omega male. She is a Beta in training for a new program placing betas in Alpha/Omega packs. Mila is only doing the program for the money to take care of her dad. She wasn't expecting to fall for a pack but when she sees this packs Omega she is done for. There is just something about him. His Alphas are good looking as well. Too bad she is hiding a secret and their government is acting shady. I liked it and can't wait to see where their story goes.
