Philodendron 'Summer Glory' – Distinctive Hybrid with Stunning Foliage

Philodendron 'Summer Glory' is a remarkable hybrid that combines the best traits of an unnamed Philodendron hybrid and Philodendron gloriosum. Developed by LariAnn Garner in 2016, this plant is known for its dramatic foliage transformation, where new leaves emerge in a fiery orange-red hue before maturing into a deep green with a velvety texture. Its creeping growth habit and bold venation make it an outstanding choice for collectors.

Unique Traits of Philodendron 'Summer Glory'

  • Color Evolution – New leaves unfurl in a vibrant red-orange hue before transitioning into rich green with striking veins.
  • Leaf Texture – Smooth, slightly velvety leaves with a prominent sheen, enhancing its bold appearance.
  • Growth Habit – A terrestrial creeping Philodendron that spreads horizontally, requiring a wide pot.

Essential Information on Philodendron 'Summer Glory'

  • Natural Influence – This hybrid takes influence from Philodendron gloriosum, inheriting its creeping growth and broad, heart-shaped leaves.
  • Size Indoors – Can grow up to 90 cm wide with large leaves spanning 30-40 cm.
  • Growth Speed – Moderate growth rate, producing new leaves consistently in warm, humid environments.
  • Toxicity – Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation if ingested. Keep away from pets and children.

Care Guidelines for Philodendron 'Summer Glory'

  • Lighting – Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight may cause leaf burn, while low light slows growth.
  • Watering – Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings.
  • Humidity – Requires high humidity (60-80%) to maintain optimal leaf health and vibrant coloration.
  • Temperature – Thrives in temperatures between 18°C and 26°C. Avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.
  • Soil Mix – Best grown in a well-draining mix containing orchid bark, perlite, and coconut coir.
  • Fertilization – Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during active growth.

Common Issues and How to Address Them

  • Yellowing Leaves – Often due to overwatering. Ensure the pot has proper drainage and adjust watering frequency.
  • Leaf Browning – Can be caused by low humidity or excessive direct sunlight. Increase humidity levels and provide filtered light.
  • Pests – Susceptible to spider mites and mealybugs. Regularly inspect and treat with neem oil, or use beneficial insects or insecticidal soap as needed.

Additional Care Tips

  • Support and Placement – As a creeping plant, it benefits from a wide pot rather than a deep one.
  • Repotting – Refresh soil and repot every 2-3 years to maintain healthy root development.
  • Leaf Cleaning – Gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and enhance photosynthesis.

Understanding the natural growth habits of Philodendron 'Summer Glory' will help you replicate its ideal environment, ensuring it thrives indoors with its spectacular foliage.

Seems Very Durable So Far
Size: Small, Style: 4 Pack
My dogs are really enjoying these chew toys! These keep them busy for hours!! So far they seem very durable and my little dogs can really chew and destroy so I’m happy about these so far! They rarely each chew a toy at the same time, but choose to take turns instead. But now they each have a chew toy and they are happy campers!!

Size: Small, Style: Wishbone/Dental
Purchased these two small sized Benebones for my puppy Springer Spaniel. It’s one of her favorite toys and it is well used and well worn. Replaced these with the medium size recently as she’s almost full grown now.

Adorable & Tough Rose Toy Perfect for Aggressive Chewers 🌹🐶
Color: Light Pink, Pattern Name: Roses, Color: Light Pink, Pattern Name: Roses
I bought this rose-shaped rubber toy for my dog and I’m honestly so impressed! The pink and green design is super cute and unique it really stands out from typical dog toys. My dog is a pretty aggressive chewer, and this toy has held up really well. The rubber feels durable and strong, but still has enough flexibility to keep him interested and engaged. He absolutely loves playing with it and carries it around everywhere. What I love most is that the textured rose design actually helps clean his teeth while he chews, which is a huge bonus. It’s like playtime and dental care in one! If you have a strong chewer and want something functional but also aesthetically cute, this is a great choice. Definitely a new favorite in our house 🐾💗

Keep repurchasing
Color: Red, Pattern Name: Roses, Color: Red, Pattern Name: Roses
I bought these as a cute Valentine’s Day present for my dog. He typically destroys any toy within 10 minutes of giving it to him. This rose lasts months and it’s his favorite. He could chew this toy for hours. Every couple of months he’ll get a small chunk of the stem off but the rest of the rose stays intact. He’s good about dropping and leaving the chunk he rips off but I’d just keep a cautious eye on your dog if you notice a piece is starting to break away. (Side note: when a piece does start breaking off, my husband and I both struggle and typically can’t rip it off) We let him play with it until it’s just the flower and then throw it away and repurchase. He also loves to play fetch with it. It’s not super bouncy but does have a little bit of a bounce if thrown on a hard ground. All we have to say is “Opie where’s your rose?” He goes running to his toy box and acts as a claw machine to get his rose specifically.
