The stems of this Crassula are adorable, forming little chains of bright green, triangular leaves which grow straight upwards, looking from the top like angular rosettes and from the side like miniature green skyscrapers. The succulent leaves grow so densely that they seem to be stacked one on top of the other, and its distinctive appearance really makes it stand out in any succulent collection. The compact nature of its adorable foliage also makes it perfect for smaller pots and desert terrarium or succulent arrangements - it doesn't grow too quickly and adds a little bit of height whilst not overly dominating the scene. Keep it happy with a decent amount of bright light, and letting it dry between waters, and you'll be treated to more of its gorgeous foliage.

Scientific Name
Crassula rupestris ssp. commutata ‘Tom Thumb’ (thick-leaved, rock-loving plant, subspecies that's slightly different, cultivar: Tom Thumb)

Synonyms: Crassula commutata

This plant was initially classified as C. commutata in 1967, but is now classified as a subspecies of C. rupestris following analysis in a 1975 paper

Common Name(s)
Tom Thumb Crassula, Miniature Stacked Crassula, Rosary Vine Crassula

Origin
This species is native to Namibia as well as rocky parts of South Africa.

Light
It's important to give your Crassula plenty of bright light. It can cope with indirect light but will do best with at least a few hours of direct sun. Keeping it on a south- or west-facing window will give it a good light level and help to keep a red tint on the leaves for that extra bit of colour.

Water
Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. It needs a big soak when you water, and plenty of time to dry out in between as soil that stays soggy risks root rot. During winter, leave longer between waters.

Humidity
Thrives in low-humidity environments. Make sure you aren't keeping it anywhere especially damp.

Soil
Use a well-draining cactus or succulent potting mix, or one with added grit, sand or perlite. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Repot every 2-3 years in spring as the plant grows.

Food
Feed every two months in the growing season, reduce to every three in autumn and winter.

Temperature
Ideal temperature is 15-26°C; make sure it does not get colder than 12°C in winter.

Pet-safe
No, this plant is toxic to pets and small humans.

Sprouts Top Tips
The red edges on the leaves become more vibrant with brighter light exposure, so keep it on a bright windowledge if you like the eyecatching colour.

Extras
The red edges on the leaves become more vibrant with brighter light exposure, making this plant a great candidate for sunny windowsills or outdoor settings in warm climates.

Did You Know?
The name Crassula rupestris translates to “rock-loving thick-leaved plant,” perfectly describing its preference for rocky terrains in its native habitat. The cultivar ‘Tom Thumb’ is a popular choice among bonsai enthusiasts due to its tiny, intricate foliage and architectural form.

Make your life a work of art
Format: Kindle
These passages drawn from all the world's great spiritual traditions coupled with enthusiastic sustained practice of Eknath Easwaran s 8point program can provide depth and meaning to one's life and a greater understanding of what the check it is we are all doing here on this beautiful yet long suffering planet. Don't be thrown off by the quiet delivery or the religious stuff -- it's always common sense experience based and never heavy handed. You'll get as much out of it as you put into it. The people that have used this form of meditation and are associated w the blue mountain center are some of the most extraordinary humble people you will ever meet. Good luck.

A Beautiful Resource
Format: Kindle
Eknath Easwaran was a wonderful teacher who taught passage meditation, memorizing and repeating to oneself sacred writings. These writings are drawn from many of the great religious traditions. In the last few years of my aging mother's life, she and I spent many hours reading these passages together, meditating on them, and discussing them. We had our favorites and when one of us was travelling, we would agree to meditate on one or two particular ones at the same time wherever we were. At her death, I recited many of these passages to her to bring her peace. She died more than a decade ago but these passages still evoke that beautiful time in my mind and I am grateful for this beautiful resource of passages. I find that everything in this book is a source of peace when I read and meditation on it.

Printed version would have been better
Format: Kindle
The reason I gave "God Makes the Rivers Flow" 4-stars, instead of 5-stars, is a reflection on my choice to get the Kindle Edition. I love my Kindle. But, this book would be better to flip though, not to read like a novel. I think a printed version would have been a better choice. I have a lot of respect for Eknath Easwaran. He did not just tolerate diversity, he genuinely valued diversity. His works are a great way to bring traditions and peoples together, not only by showing what they have in common (although that is valuable too), but by cerebrating the ways that they differ. His works demonstrate that each tradition has noticed something about God that others did not, and they all add value to humanity's global relationship with God. "God Makes the Rivers Flow" is a great example of that.

This book is very comforting and inspiring!
Format: Paperback
Just love all of Easwaran's books. I have memorized many of these passages for meditation and enjoy reading the others. It tells of the source and author of the passages. There is a great variety to refer to for many different needs. I appreciate the translations by a great meditation teacher, Eknath Easwaran, who brings these words to people of all different back rounds and beliefs. Thank you.
