ABOUT OUR FIDDLE LEAF FIG

Hey there, I’m Fiona the Ficus lyrata! You probably know me better as the fiddle leaf fig tree. I’m the "it" girl of the plant world - a houseplant so trendy I’ve made it on the covers of all the home décor magazines that matter. Fame is fleeting for some, but I know people take just one look at my paddle-shaped, glossy leaves and realise they just have to take me home.

First discovered in Western and Central Africa in humid tropical forests, today I’m present across Japan and the Caribbean, where I thrive thanks to the mild temperatures and warm sun. While I definitely prefer to live outside, I am capable of compromise - well, sometimes. If you install me in your home, I’m a tiny bit of a diva: I prefer lots of bright, indirect sunlight and warm temperatures to keep me at my best. No cold, dark rooms for me, thanks.

My spectacular foliage has been described as looking like a sculpture and I’m destined to add star quality and gravitas to your home.

Small height (including nursery pot) 30cm; pot diameter 11cm. (Fits a 12-13cm pot)

Medium height (including nursery pot) 60-70cm; pot diameter 17cm. (Fits a 18-22cm pot)

Big height (including nursery pot) 100-110cm; pot diameter 21cm. (Fits a 22cm-24cm pot)

XL Height (including nursery pot) 90-100cm; pot diameter 27cm. (Fits a 28-32cm)

DID YOU KNOW?

Wonder where Fiona gets her name? The fiddle-leaf fig is named after the fact that, well, its leaves are similar in shape to a fiddle - and, in the wild, they can grow about the same size, too!

Fiona's a stunning houseplant with big, full leaves and she'll look quite stunning in a warm sunny conservatory or as a centerpiece for the kitchen table.

QUICK FIDDLE LEAF FIG PLANT CARE

Fiona will thrive with minimal care; she might be a diva, but less is certainly more when it comes to keeping her happy.

LIGHTING

I love bright, indirect light. Place me in a room when I can enjoy the sunlight for up to six hours a day.

WATERING

I do prefer my soil to dry out a little before I get watered again.

HUMIDITY

I tolerate lower humidity levels but I’d much prefer a little more moisture in the air. Place a pebble tray nearby or keep me next to other plants. Find out how to increase humidity in your home here.

FERTILISER

Fertilise me once every month in the growth season, which is from March to September.

THINGS WE ALWAYS GET ASKED

How do you care for a fiddle leaf fig tree?

The best care for an indoor potted fiddle-leaf fig tree is a bright room with warm temperatures. The fiddle leaf fig can be sensitive to drafts so placing Fiona away from any windows or frequently used doors can prevent leaf drop. Allow her soil to dry out a little in between each watering as she can be a bit sensitive (yeh, we know) to overly moist soil, which can cause root rot.

How much light does a fiddle leaf fig need?

Fiddle leaf figs prefer a sunny room, although she needs to stay away from being in direct sunlight. If Fiona doesn’t get her way (or enough light), there’s a fair chance she’ll start losing her lower leaves.

Are fiddle leaf figs hard to keep alive?

They can be tricky at the beginning when they are adjusting to their new homes and it’s a good idea to not move her from her new spot in your home. Once their lighting, watering and temperature conditions are good, indoor fig trees are relatively easy to grow.

PLANT STYLING TIPS

Fiona’s leaves will look stunning in a bright kitchen. Use her tropical foliage to decorate your kitchen table or reading snug where she can be appreciated every day. Take a look at Sasha, Bonnie and Curly Wurly who can join her in a sunny room. Keep her away from any pets or young children as her foliage is poisonous if ingested.

Pair Fiona with the wanderlust reed diffuser and the reflection crystal to turn your home into a dazzling place worthy of such a stylish plant.

One of the best books on shame out there
Format: Paperback
As a shame researcher and educator, I often refer to DeYoung's book because it is so full of resources and relational tools for clinicians and individuals relating to the neurobiology of shame. It is a very small book with A LOT of information. Many references to the shame research and suggestions for treating shame in clinical practice from a perspective of right brain relationship dynamics. Thank you Patricia!

Highly recommend.
Format: Paperback
One of the most helpful, lucid, and comprehensive books on shame I've encountered. This was required reading for graduate school and is now one of my most returned to, dog-eared, and referenced books. Can't recommend enough.

Thorough, clear, enlightening, and inspiring - not often achieved in academia
Format: Paperback
This is an extraordinarily well-researched manual. It presents for the reader a Catholic-Christian perspective on psychology/mental health which is faithful to the magisterial teachings of the Church and the Christian tradition. So much good will come to the clinician/professor/pastoral leader/student/generally-concerned-citizen who engages thoughtfully with the CCMMP. More to the point, those whom they serve will reap the real harvest. This could be one of the most important books written in this century. Yes. Bold claim. Bolder still and brighter yet the vision of the human person elucidated in this volume. "The glory of God is a human person fully alive" (St. Irenaeus of Lyon) The CCMMP sheds light for the reader to catch that vision of God's image (the human person) in a world so dimmed by confusion. Read this book. Or pick put some chapters that are of particular interest to you and go through those. You'll be glad you did.

Towards a Christian Psychology or Cure of Souls
Format: Paperback
Mental health professionals will benefit from this comprehensive manual that has been extensively researched, as it provides a way forward in the direct application of the Christian tradition in a therapeutic context. This book restores the authority within psychology back to the spiritual dimension rather than the empiricism and rationalism that is the legacy of the Enlightenment project and consequently of mainstream psychology. An important matter not addressed in this study are the arguably deleterious impacts of the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965) on the hearts and minds of the faithful, not to mention the crisis in religious vocations to which it has led. Therefore, references to the doctrinal teachings of Vatican II (and the contemporary church) should be considered with discernment so that a clear distinction can be maintained between traditional Catholicism and some of its modern aberrations (Coomaraswamy, 2006). Notwithstanding, the book has many strengths that will benefit therapists who are interested in Christian psychology, or the “science of the soul” found within all of the world’s religions. It is by adhering to one of the divinely revealed spiritual traditions that we can gain access to a liberating discernment—“Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32)—which is essential for any integral therapy and healing. -Spiritual Psychology and Counseling, Vol. 7, No. 2 (2022)

tour de force work, written in the Catholic intellectual tradition
Format: Hardcover
What a masterpiece. I would recommend this book as required reading for Catholics in the helping professions--counseling, social work, clinical psychology, etc. I'm a grad student in Catholic counseling at a non-Catholic institution, and this has been a go-to text in my classes. So grateful to the professors and contributors at Divine Mercy University for their many, many years and sacrifices putting this treatise together. It is going to bear much fruit in the years to come. Thank you!!
