The Chapel View™ Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria) from First Editions Plants is a foliage texture champ for gardens of any size! This Cryptomeria produces gorgeous blue-green needle foliage that remains lush and evergreen all year long. Strands of compact needles reach upwards and outwards, which makes for fantastic texture interest. Windy days create beautiful displays as semi-rigid branches rhythmically blow to-and-fro in the bluster. Furthermore, unlike similar varieties, the Chapel View experiences very little winter bronzing.
The Chapel View Japanese Cedar can reach 5-10' H and 4-8' W, however, it is easily trimmed to a desired size. This is due to it's moderate growth rate of 6-8" each year. A light trim in early spring will keep it right where you want it. Additionally, no matter what size you have it at, it's foliage is naturally compact.
This Cryptomeria is highly disease and pest resistant.
Use this small tree as an accent, specimen, hedge, or even container plant. Moreover, let it grow freely and use it as a privacy screen. Dense foliage will stop any peeping eyes or unwanted noises dead in their tracks.
Chapel View Japanese Cedar Care
Hardy from USDA Zones 6-9.
Prefers Full Sun. Although some shade is tolerated, plenty of sun ensures that the Chapel View Japanese Cedar has dense, rich foliage.
Water 2-3 times a week for the first growing season. Afterwards, provide supplemental watering 1-2 times a week when rainfall is low.
Plant the Chapel View Cryptomeria in moist, rich, acidic soil for best results. Top-dress the soil underneath your plant with 2-3 inches of compost every year to keep it flush with organic matter.
Fertilize yearly in spring with a balanced, acidic plant fertilizer. For more rapid growth, reapply fertilizer every few months during the growing season.
Try planting the Chapel View Japanese Cedar with vibrantly colored plants such as the Delta Jazz Pink Crape Myrtle or the Orange Rocket Barberry
