The Organic version of Brunnings Fast Action Weed Kill is a popular choice for pet owners and eco-conscious gardeners because it swaps out harsh synthetic chemicals for a plant-derived active ingredient.
The Active Ingredient: Nonanoic Acid
Unlike the standard version which uses Glyphosate, the organic version uses Nonanoic Acid (also known as Pelargonic Acid).
Where it comes from: Nonanoic Acid is a fatty acid that occurs naturally in plants like geraniums.
How it works: It is a contact herbicide. Instead of poisoning the plant from the inside, it dissolves the waxy outer layer of the leaves. This causes the plant cells to leak and rapidly dehydrate, essentially burning the weed.
