Graptoveria ‘Mrs Richards’ is an enchanting succulent hybrid, a cross between Graptopetalum paraguayense and an unknown Echeveria species. Named and introduced by Dutch horticulturist Johannes Cornelius van Keppel in 1979, this plant is also known by its synonym, Graptoveria 'Gypsy'. The creation of British breeder Albert Baynes, this succulent showcases a beautiful palette of pastel tones, ranging from deep reds to bright pinks.

The rosettes of Graptoveria ‘Mrs Richards’ are composed of fleshy, broad leaves that exhibit a striking blend of pink, red, blue, and purple hues. The leaves are coated with a delicate waxy bloom, adding a soft, pastel appearance that becomes more vivid in strong light and cooler temperatures. This feature makes the plant almost appear artificial, enhancing its visual appeal in any setting.

In late spring to early summer, Graptoveria ‘Mrs Richards’ blooms with bell-shaped flowers on scorpioid stalks. These flowers are typically yellowish to pinkish, adorned with tiny red spots. The plant offsets readily from the base, forming dense clumps over time, making it ideal for succulent bowls or indoor planters.

For optimal growth, place Graptoveria ‘Mrs Richards’ in a location with full sun to partial shade, such as near a bright window. Ensure the soil is well-draining, using a commercial succulent mix or a homemade blend. While this succulent can tolerate high temperatures with ample ventilation, it should be protected from frost and extreme cold, thriving best in climates with winter temperatures above -1°C.

Water using the "soak and dry" method during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, water sparingly to prevent shriveling. Though not necessary, occasional feeding with a diluted, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season can boost growth. Propagation is straightforward through stem cuttings or leaves, best done in spring or summer.

Add the unique and vibrant Graptoveria ‘Mrs Richards’ to your collection for a touch of colourful charm and easy-care beauty.
