It is a compact evergreen shrub with finely toothed, glossy dark green leaves and can be grown as as spreading plant in the border or as in this case, trained up a trellis or support. 

Best space & place
Grow in well-drained soil in a sheltered position in full sun. May need winter protection in frost prone areas of the UK. 

When to water & feed
Ceanothus are fairly drought tolerant and if planted in the ground, once established they should get most of the moisture they need from rainfall, except in very hot summers.

If kept in a pot make sure it is free draining and reduce watering in the winter. 

Need to know
Most dieback is caused by too much water or that the plant is too exposed to cold winds.
