The 'Hawaiian' Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is a unique and highly decorative cultivar of the classic Spider Plant.
Unlike the common 'Vittatum', the 'Hawaiian' variety has a glowing golden-yellow center on new growth. As the leaves age, this center fades to a soft white, giving the plant a multi-toned look.
It produces small, delicate star-shaped white flowers on long, wiry stems called "runners." Once the flowers fade, tiny plantlets (pups) grow in their place. Known for being an "air-scrubbing" powerhouse, it is famous for its ability to filter indoor toxins like formaldehyde and xylene.

Bright, indirect light. While it can survive in lower light, its golden variegation will be most vibrant in bright rooms.
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. They are sensitive to fluoride/chlorine in tap water; use filtered or rainwater to prevent brown tips.
A standard, well-draining potting mix.
Spider Plant Hawaiians grow best in normal room temperatures (between 60°F-75°F). They are not frost-tolerant and do not grow well when the temperature drops below 50°F. Avoid high humidity.
Spider Plant Hawaiian should be fertilized once during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted houseplant fertilizer.
This plant is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs. -

Non-greasy (really) and works great

I moved to Michigan at the end of last summer and was positively eaten by mosquitoes through September. (They liked the taste of Texas I guess.) The only formulas I found effective were this and Off Deep Woods. (And yes, I've tried all the natural oil mixes, including Young Living Purification, citronella, etc. changed my lotion, avoided fragrances, you name it.) The Smooth and Dry formula is by far my favorite. It doesn't last as long as the Off 'Deep Woods' offering, but it is really and truly non-oily/non-greasy so it's not a worry to reapply. There is a powdery dust finish involved with the application so be careful where you spray (into the wind, etc.) You don't want to accidentally inhale the stuff. That said, the dry finish means this won't stain clothes or add to the hot sticky feeling you already have to deal with during the summer.
One caveat for this particular product listing - this is for a bundle of SMALL 2.5 oz cans. I have never seen this small size in store, so while I thought I was getting a great deal, it was just about the same price per oz that I would have paid buying locally. My fault for not double-checking the size, but still, it was nice to stock up and be able to toss in a bag, the car, etc.

Re-apply each hour for full protection

I bought this item because family and I had mosquito bites problems and started using this product. It will wear off and needs to be reapplied after about one hour. The other products i have used for the problem is peppermint oil with water. If you shower , you will need to reapply.
