Cordyline 'Firestorm'

Cordyline 'Firestorm' is a striking evergreen shrub known for its fiery red and burgundy foliage with vibrant orange undertones, creating a bold and dramatic presence in gardens and landscapes. With its arching, sword-like leaves, 'Firestorm' brings a tropical feel and strong architectural interest to modern and tropical garden styles. Growing to a height of 1–1.5 meters, this Cordyline is ideal for feature planting in garden beds, mixed borders, or large containers, where its intense colour can serve as a focal point.

Position

'Firestorm' thrives in full sun to partial shade, with the richest color displayed in bright light. It adapts well to a variety of well-drained soils and performs well in temperate, subtropical, and coastal climates. Drought-tolerant once established, 'Firestorm' benefits from occasional watering during extended dry periods. It is moderately frost-tolerant but may need protection in regions with harsh winters.

Growth

This moderate-growing, clumping shrub reaches a mature height of 1–1.5 meters with a spread of about 1 meter. Its vibrant red, burgundy, and orange foliage, combined with its upright, structured form, make it an excellent choice for adding height, colour contrast, and a tropical feel to garden beds, borders, or container displays.

Planting Guide

Cordyline 'Firestorm' grows best in well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Plant in spring or autumn, spacing plants about 1 meter apart for a fuller effect in garden beds or borders. For container planting, use a high-quality potting mix with good drainage, and place the container in a sunny or partially shaded location. Water thoroughly after planting, and apply a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture and reduce weeds.

Plant Care

Water regularly during the establishment phase, then reduce watering as the plant matures and becomes more drought-tolerant. 'Firestorm' benefits from a balanced, slow-release fertiliser applied in early spring to promote healthy growth and vibrant foliage. Remove any dead or damaged leaves as needed to maintain a neat appearance. In cooler climates, consider mulching around the base to protect roots from frost.

Excellent choice for long oil change intervals.
Size: 1 Quart, Pack of 6
I'm a former dealership mechanic and for years I used whatever we had in the bulk tank which was usually Valvoline conventional. My last job was at a German car dealership. Castrol was the oil recommended by the German manufacturers and that's when I started using Castrol. In my experience Castrol is an excellent oil. My 2014 Ford just rolled over 242,000 miles and even with factory 10,000 mile oil change intervals, from what I can see through the oil fill the top end of the engine is still clean. I've never had to remove the valve cover. It's using about a quart between oil 10,000 mile oil changes which is great because when it was new it used about a 1/2 quart between changes.
