Vinca minor – The Classic Evergreen Groundcover with Periwinkle Blue Flowers

Vinca minor, commonly known as lesser periwinkle, is a low-growing, evergreen groundcover admired for its trailing habit, glossy green leaves, and pretty star-like flowers that appear from spring into summer. Fast-spreading and highly adaptable, it’s ideal for covering bare soil, underplanting shrubs, or stabilising slopes. With minimal maintenance and good resistance to pests and diseases, Vinca minor is a trusted solution for adding colour and greenery to challenging or shaded areas of the garden.

Why Grow Vinca minor?

Beautiful Blue Flowers – In spring and early summer, Vinca minor produces charming periwinkle-blue, violet, or white flowers, depending on the variety. The blooms provide a cheerful contrast against the glossy, dark green foliage.

Evergreen Carpet – Its trailing stems form a dense mat of shiny, evergreen leaves, keeping the garden looking neat and vibrant year-round.

Shade Tolerant – Perfect for shady spots, under trees, or on north-facing slopes where other plants may struggle. It tolerates full shade to dappled sun with ease.

Low Maintenance – Once established, it requires little attention. It suppresses weeds, stabilises soil, and rarely suffers from pests or diseases.

Fast-Spreading – A vigorous grower that quickly covers ground, helping to prevent erosion and fill in gaps in large planting areas.

Height of Plant

Vinca minor grows to a height of 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) and spreads indefinitely through creeping stems. It’s best used as a groundcover, especially in larger beds, woodland gardens, or sloped areas.

Where to Site Your Vinca minor

This plant thrives in areas where you need a tough, attractive groundcover, including:

  • Under shrubs or trees, where low light and dry conditions make planting tricky.

  • Slopes or banks, where its roots help stabilise soil and prevent erosion.

  • Borders and pathways, offering a soft, trailing edge or filler between larger plants.

  • Cottage gardens and naturalistic plantings, where its informal habit fits perfectly.

How to Grow and Care for Your Vinca minor

Soil – Prefers moist, well-drained soil, but adapts well to a wide range of conditions, including dry or poor soils once established.

Light – Thrives in partial shade to full shade, but will also grow in full sun in cooler climates, though flowering may reduce in deep shade.

Watering – Requires regular watering during establishment, then becomes drought-tolerant. Avoid waterlogged soil.

Maintenance:

  • Pruning – Trim back after flowering to keep it neat or control spread if it becomes too vigorous. Can be mown on a high setting to rejuvenate the foliage in early spring.

  • Feeding – Not usually necessary, but a light application of general fertiliser in spring can boost growth.

  • Pest & Disease Resistance – Very resistant to pests and diseases. May experience occasional fungal leaf spots in overly humid or crowded conditions.

  • Cold Hardy – Fully hardy and withstands frost and snow without damage.

Perfect Plant Combinations

Vinca minor pairs well with hostas, ferns, brunnera, and pulmonaria in shady borders. It also complements bulbs like snowdrops and daffodils, which flower above its carpet of evergreen foliage in early spring.

For groundcover contrast, mix with ajuga, lamium, or bergenia to create a textural, layered look in shady or woodland-style gardens.

With its spreading evergreen foliage, cheerful flowers, and problem-solving nature, Vinca minor is one of the best groundcovers for shaded or difficult garden areas. Whether cascading over walls, filling under trees, or covering large banks, it delivers colour and coverage with minimal effort.

True copper battery cables that are high quality
Size: 10ft, Color: 4awg
I love having heavy duty cable on hand for my cars. It's so nice to be able to make your own starter and alternator cables when restoring cars. These cables are 100% copper, not CCA (copper clad aluminum) like many others are. Copper is far superior for conductivity and handling higher loads. The rubber on the cable is thick and yet very flexible..it's clearly marked and seems very durable. I like to use a hydraulic crimping tool and then add marine grade heat shrink tubing with the adhesive inside of it to keep it as weatherproof as possible.

Excellent . Bought these to install a 5000 watt inverter . Arrived a little late but these cables are exactly as described. I needed 10 ft but ended up using like 9 ft. These are extremely flexible and of very good quality . Highly recommended and will buy again

Poor quality and false advertising in size
Size: 4/0 AWG 10FT Red & Black
A complete fraud. I ordered 4/0 but got 4 gauge. The description & picture was correct, but someone doesn’t know the difference in 4 gauge and 4/0. AND the jacket insulation was cheap and translucent, not solid color and supple/flexible. Poor product quality and completely misleading.

I liked them. They really lock down on the speaker wire to make a firm connection. They seem well made and are easy to install. My system sounds great.

These banana plugs are quite easy to use, and securely connected my speaker cables to the receiver. They have a quality feel as well.
