Magical Fantasy Weigela (Weigela florida 'Kolsunn')

Magical Fantasy Weigela brings bright, clean contrast to the garden with variegated foliage that keeps working even when the shrub is not in bloom. The crisp leaf edges help lift darker plantings and make surrounding greens look more intentional. In spring, soft pink flowers add a gentle pop of color that feels welcoming near patios, walks, and entry beds. It is an easy way to get season-long visual interest in a compact, manageable size.

Distinctive Features

This deciduous weigela is valued for green leaves edged in creamy white, with new growth that can show a pink blush for extra color. Clusters of soft pink, tubular flowers appear in spring and stand out nicely against the variegated foliage. The plant forms a rounded, bushy habit that looks full from the ground up, making it a strong fit for borders and foundation lines. When in bloom, it can attract hummingbirds and other pollinators.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Full sun is best for flowering and foliage brightness, with light shade tolerated.
  • Soil: Average, well-drained soil is ideal, avoid sites that stay wet.
  • Water: Water regularly during establishment, then water when the top couple inches of soil is dry.
  • USDA Zones: Grows well in zones 4 to 8.
  • Mature Size: Typically reaches about 3 to 4 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide.
  • Habit: Rounded, compact, and bushy with dense branching.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use the variegated foliage as a focal point to brighten a bed from spring through fall.
  • Foundation Planting: Place it along the front of the house where the clean leaf edges read well up close.
  • Mixed Borders: Pair it with evergreens or darker foliage plants to sharpen contrast and add depth.
  • Containers: Grow it in a large container to bring foliage contrast and spring color to patios and decks.
  • Pollinator Planting: Include it where you can enjoy hummingbirds and pollinators during the spring bloom.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Pruning: Prune right after flowering to shape and to avoid removing next season's flower buds.
  • Mulching: Mulch the root zone to conserve moisture and reduce weeds, keeping mulch off the stems.
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist in the first growing season, then provide deep watering during extended dry periods.
  • Feeding: Apply compost or a balanced fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth.
  • Winter Cleanup: Remove dead or damaged branches in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Why Choose Magical Fantasy Weigela?

  • Variegated Foliage: Cream-edged leaves add brightness and keep the planting looking polished all season.
  • Spring Bloom: Soft pink flowers deliver a friendly seasonal highlight without overwhelming nearby colors.
  • Compact Fit: A manageable size that works well in smaller beds, foundation lines, and mixed borders.
  • Easy Design Contrast: Variegation helps separate layers in the landscape and makes companion plants look sharper.
  • Pollinator Appeal: Flowers help attract hummingbirds and other pollinators when the shrub is in bloom.

Magical Fantasy Weigela is a simple way to add brightness, contrast, and spring color in a shrub that stays easy to live with. Give it sun, reliable drainage, and a quick post-bloom trim, and it will hold a tidy shape year after year. It pairs especially well with dark evergreens, deep green hedges, and perennials with blue or purple flowers for a clean, balanced look.

my new favorite book
Format: Kindle
Ok so I never write reviews but this book was so good I felt the need to write this. Firstly your introduced to Huntyr you see her closed off hard core badass than towards the end you see the most subtle change and growth it’s amazing and the enemies to friends to lovers was just perfect, AND THE TWIST AT THE END GOT ME GOOD! You see one spicy scene the whole book but it doesn’t even MATTER BECAUSE THE BOOK WAS THAT GOOD. I’ve read 85 books in 2023-2024 so far and I’m pround to say this is my all time favorite. I’m so excited to read more of Emily Blackwoods books, this was my first time reading one of hers and I’m glad I did because HOLY!! Well done Emily well done

Fast paced romantasy you will not want to put down!
Format: Kindle
4.25 stars! I LOVED this book with similar vibes to Hush Hush, Fourth Wing, and The Serpent and the Wings of Night! It was fast paced with easy world building and will keep you turning the pages late into the night because you will not want to put it down! Huntyr is a fierce bad@ss FMC trained to kill vampyres her entire life. She is sent on a mission to go to the academy and earn her spot into The Golden City. Upon arrival, she is forced to room with the delicious fallen angel, Wolf, who is the only one who knows about her assassin identity. The romance, the plot twists, the secrets revealed, the battles, and the tantalizing training scenes had me hooked! And that ending…. I’m holding my breath in need to know hell! Read if you love: 🪽 Fae, Vampyres, Fallen Angels 🪽 Academy setting with magical trials 🪽 Forced proximity and slow burn 🪽 Rivals to lovers 🪽 Hidden identities and secrets 🪽 Tend your wounds “𝘖𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶. Excellent Rivals to Lovers!!
Format: Kindle
The tension and banter between Huntyr and Wold was delectable. I absolutely love the fallen angel and all of his flaws. Huntyr is amazing too being a badass FMC with some major trauma. The world building was great and I enjoyed the training aspect of the story. The writing was immersive and was in the story the whole time. The ending had quite a twist that I hadn’t anticipated and made my jaw DROP. Excellent job! I also loved the narration. Laura is one of my fave narrators!

Addicting!
Format: Kindle
I could not stop reading. It was so refreshing to have a series start so completely different than most fated mates/fantasy academy rh I’ve been reading. From the desert scenery to the magic and feeding plus the psychological trauma the characters are there to deal with. Pandora is absolutely adorable and I totally relate to hiding behind my hair. I love that she’s literally the most scary type of demon but it’s not the usual “badass mc” persona (which I do love a badass that can fend for herself and kick ass from the start but it was a nice change of pace). I’m not usually a big fan of bully within the harem but each character has their reasons for their actions and also conflicting feelings about them. I adore Dex and Reed! Complete opposites but their personalities and inner monologues made them instant favs. I can’t wait to see the character growth with the guys and continued strength for Pandora. The captivating characters and references to the Fate Hallow series added so much depth and now I need another reread while I wait for book 2. The concept of magic and the unique feeding habits of the demon characters were intriguing. I can't wait for the next book to continue this thrilling journey. In summary, this book is a must-read for fantasy and magic academy rh fans. With its enchanting characters, nods to the Fate Hallow series, and imaginative concepts, it offers an immersive reading experience that hwill leave you craving for more.

Best academy I've read this year
Format: Kindle
I need a few things when it comes to a first book of a PNR romance series 1-Good world building (which this totally did) 2-An FMC I can root for (oh hell yes, Pandora is someone I can cheer for) 3-Good drama (can you say GROVEL BOYS!) 4-Enough story to make you feel like you really read something with meat (you saw this book is like 600 pages, yeah?) 5-A hook at the end so I want more! (please, Lyra, gimmie more?!? I need more!!) Be aware this book is a slow burn, but damn do I feel like there'll be some big payoff when it finally happens. Who doesn't like the buildup?
