Ailanthus altissima, commonly known as the tree of heaven, is a rapidly growing deciduous tree native to China and Taiwan. It can reach heights of 20-25 meters (65-82 feet) with a broad canopy of large, compound leaves that can be up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) long, composed of 10-41 leaflets. The leaves emit a distinctive, unpleasant odor when crushed. The tree produces small, yellowish-green flowers in late spring to early summer, with male flowers also emitting a strong, foul smell. These flowers give way to clusters of winged seeds, called samaras, which are easily dispersed by the wind. Ailanthus altissima is highly adaptable and can grow in a variety of soil types, including poor, disturbed soils, and is often found in urban environments, vacant lots, and along roadsides. Despite its resilience and ability to thrive in challenging conditions, the tree is considered highly invasive in many parts of the world due to its aggressive growth, prolific seed production, and ability to outcompete native vegetation. It also releases allelopathic chemicals that inhibit the growth of other plants, further aiding its spread.  Zones 4-8  We will not ship to Washington state.

Germination

Germinating seeds of Ailanthus altissima, commonly known as the tree of heaven, is a relatively straightforward process due to the tree's high adaptability and rapid growth. The seeds, contained in winged samaras, do not require stratification and can be sown directly. To enhance germination rates, soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting. Sow the seeds in a well-draining soil mix, covering them lightly with soil, as they need light to germinate. Maintain a warm environment with temperatures around 20-25°C (68-77°F) and keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically occurs within 1-4 weeks under optimal conditions. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, they should be transplanted to individual pots or directly into the ground in a location that receives full sun. Given the tree's invasive nature, it's important to consider the ecological impact and potential for uncontrolled spread when cultivating Ailanthus altissima. Proper management and monitoring are crucial to prevent it from outcompeting native vegetation.

Decent durability for the price
Color: Blue
Bought a bunch of these for a dog shelter and have to say - decent for the price of you have aggressive chewers. All of the toys are still going 6+ months later, even with the strongest jawed pitty mix. Does get torn up at the ends but can easily be sanded down for a longer lasting toy, unlike some other hard toys with material not meant for sanding. The antler and ring seem to be favorites. The antler even has a divot so you can put soft treats in it or peanut butter and freeze it for a more interactive experience. Some came with a strong beef/liver smell but not overwhelming or off-putting. They are hefty without being too heavy, less likely to damage floors. Overall a good purchase

For aggressive chewers
Color: Blue
My pup is an aggressive chewer and these keep him occupied. He keeps coming back for them. Go to replaced old chew toys. Only issue is he leaves his toys everywhere and if you step on them. They are quite sharp
