Tansy Plants for Sale

Tanacetum vulgare

Tansy is a versatile herb known for its fern-like leaves and bright yellow button-shaped flowers. This beautiful perennial adds charm to gardens and provides multiple practical uses, from pest control to ornamental arrangements. The hardy nature makes it easy to grow and maintain, making it an ideal addition to gardeners and enthusiasts of all levels.

At The Growers Exchange, we offer sustainably grown, high-quality tansy plants ready to thrive in your garden. Our plants are nurtured with care, ensuring you receive a vibrant addition that enhances your outdoor space's beauty and functionality.

History and Heritage

Tansy, or Tanacetum vulgare, has a rich history dating back to ancient times. Its name is derived from the Greek word athanasia, meaning "immortal," due to the plant’s long-lasting blooms. It was originally used in ancient Greece and Rome for medicinal purposes, particularly its purported ability to repel insects and treat digestive issues and fevers.

Throughout medieval Europe, tansy gained popularity for its use in culinary preparations, often being added to Lent meals. As it spread across the globe, tansy became valued for its resilience, decorative flowers, and insect-repelling qualities, solidifying its place in herb gardens and folk medicine.

Appearance and Characteristics

Tansy is a striking herb with tall, upright stems covered in delicate, fern-like leaves that add a textural element to any garden. The leaves are aromatic and feathery, while the plant’s signature bright yellow, button-like flowers bloom in clusters atop the stems. These vivid blooms appear from mid-summer to early fall, providing color and attracting pollinators to your garden.

Tansy can grow to a height ranging from two to four feet. Its appearance adds a bold, structured presence often seen in borders, herb gardens, or wildflower meadows. If you are planting tansy in areas with restricted space where it can’t grow to its maximum potential, we recommend watering less to reduce its growth.

Uses and Benefits

Tansy is a versatile herb with a long history of practical and ornamental uses. It offers a wide range of benefits for the home gardener. Whether you want to improve your garden’s ecosystem or add a pop of color to your flower beds, this hardy herb delivers beauty and function.

  • Natural Insect Repellent: Tansy’s strong scent helps repel common garden pests like ants, mosquitoes, and flies. Its insect-repelling properties make it useful around doorways, windows, and outdoor areas where bugs can be a nuisance.

  • Ornamental Use: Tansy's bright yellow flowers and delicate foliage create striking visual interest in garden beds and borders. They can also be used in fresh bouquets or dried arrangements, adding a touch of rustic charm.

  • Pollinator Attractor: While tansy repels unwanted pests, it simultaneously attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies. This benefit helps improve your garden's overall health and productivity by supporting pollination.

  • Medicinal Uses: Tansy has been traditionally used in herbal remedies to treat digestive issues, fevers, and inflammation. However, due to its potency, it should be used with caution and under the guidance of a knowledgeable herbalist.

  • Composting Aid: Tansy can be added to compost piles, where it helps break down organic matter and enrich the soil with valuable nutrients. It is particularly beneficial for composting because it contributes to higher nitrogen content.

  • Natural Dye: Tansy flowers produce a vibrant yellow dye that can be used for coloring fabrics and crafts. Historically, it was a common choice for creating natural dyes in textiles, offering an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic colors.

Tansy Plant Care, Maintenance, and Growing Tips

In order to ensure that your tansy plant thrives, providing the right growing conditions and care is essential. These growing tips will help you create the perfect environment for your tansy.

  • Location: Tansy prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in most climates. It’s highly adaptable, but for the best growth, it thrives in Zones 3 to 8 in sunny locations where it can get at least six hours of sunlight.

  • Planting: Space tansy plants 12 to 18 inches apart to allow them room to grow. Planting tansy in the spring or fall when temperatures are mild is best. If you plant your tansy in areas with restricted spaces that can’t spread to its maximum, reduce moisture and keep the plant dry.

  • Soil: Tansy thrives in well-drained soil, though it can tolerate poor soil conditions. Adding compost during planting can help improve growth and overall health. Moist and humid soil allow the rhizomes of this plant to spread easier.

  • Watering: Water the plant moderately, especially in dry conditions, but be careful not to overwater, especially if your plant is in limited spaces. Once established, tansy is drought-tolerant and needs less frequent watering.

  • Harvesting and Pruning: Trim tansy regularly to prevent it from spreading too aggressively. Harvest the flowers and leaves during the summer for drying or other uses.

  • Ecosystem: Tansy contributes positively to the garden ecosystem by repelling pests and attracting pollinators. Its presence can support healthier vegetable and flower gardens.

  • Companion Plants: Plant tansy alongside crops like cabbage, carrots, and potatoes to keep harmful pests, such as aphids, at bay. It also pairs well with other strong-smelling herbs like mint and rosemary.

Not gonna lie Val kind of annoyed me at the beginning but she grew on me!! Her men are chef’s kisses!!! Holt annoys me some but I can let it slide. I already bought part two so I’m going to be reading that in between work phone calls!!!! DON’T TELL MY BOSS 😂😂😂😂

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot. Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable. The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold. The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.

Interesting
Format: Kindle
So I will say I enjoyed the story, for sure had its moments where it dragged but it was a great story. I really liked that omegas picked their alphas/make the pack. Normally the Alphas make it and the omega fits in with them which is great but I enjoyed this new version where all the power basically went to the omega. It was a nice change of pace. I can admit some of the weird bedroom stuff with her being pregnant was odd, it’s really not hard to do stuff when pregnant (I know I’ve had two and it’s normal and even encouraged at the end especially if you want the baby out). But I like the story as a whole and will read the second, I do hope the next one isn’t dragged bc it stopped being action or tense after she met her alphas and I don’t think it was brought up or properly done when they tried to do it. More sweet after she left.

I’m a little disappointed.
Format: Kindle
I usually like Jillian West’s books but this one was missing a lot for me. The pregnancy didn’t come across as real. She’s on her feet for 12 hour days but is perfectly healthy at 8 months pregnant? Yet the week she moves in all of a sudden she’s not? She is planning on actually running during one of the plot buildups. But at 8 months pregnant that’s incredibly hard to do. The lack of breathing ability and lung space, the change in body center, mass, and gravity. All of it prohibits running, unless you’re an athlete this didn’t come off as at all realistic. I didn’t feel any connection with the alphas. There wasn’t any emotional connection. It could be because of the tense it was written in. But I didn’t get any deep feelings out of this. It came across as checking off boxes. Even the spicy scenes weren’t really believable for me. I wanted to see them fall for her, and it just kind of all fizzled. Even Bishop. One thing I did really like was the ending. I did not see it coming and I’m interested in reading book two because of it. But on the whole this book was mostly disappointing for me.
