The stems are just the right length for cutting for fresh or dried bouquets. "Essence Purple' makes a great addition to a cut flower bouquet and the plant itself has many fine qualities as an aromatic herb.
Lavender is a classic plant with many medicinal and culinary uses and it has a unique ability to grow in poor dry soil where many other plants fail. It is very resistant to pests and disease, but poor drainage will lead to crown rot, so site selection in an area with good winter drainage is essential. Cutting back plants in the early winter will help soil dry out and reduce the risk of rot. Plants should be grown in poor soil so avoid soil improvements or fertilizers.
