Sphagnum moss – moisture-holding moss for propagation and supports

Sphagnum moss is valuable because it holds moisture without acting like dense soil when handled well. It can support roots, stems and terrarium surfaces in different ways.

Small details

  • Moisture hold: keeps water available around roots or stems
  • Propagation use: works for many cuttings that need humidity
  • Moss poles: helps aerial roots attach and stay moist
  • Replace when degraded: old moss compacts and loses structure

Extra details

Keep moss evenly damp and provide airflow where possible. Too much water and no air can rot cuttings even in a material that is otherwise useful for rooting.

When to replace it

Sphagnum breaks down with time, fertiliser residue and constant wetness. Replace it when it smells sour, compacts heavily or no longer springs back.

How to use Sphagnum moss

  • Propagation: Use for cuttings, moss poles, and rooting when you want even moisture with air.
  • Moist, not wet: Keep it damp and springy; standing water leads to breakdown.
  • Refresh: Replace when it compresses or starts to break down.

Prep and handling for Sphagnum moss

  • Hydrate first: Soak, then squeeze out excess so it is damp and springy before use.

Handling notes

If the mix is very dry on arrival, pre-moisten before potting so water distributes evenly. After potting, one deep watering helps settle the mix without compacting it.

If the top dries much faster than the root zone, check moisture deeper and adjust pot size or airflow rather than watering just the surface.

These paper bowls are actually really sturdy for disposable bowls!
Size: 50 Count, Size: 50 Count
These paper bowls are actually really sturdy for disposable bowls! We use them for everything from cereal and soup to quick toddler meals, and they hold up well without getting soggy or flimsy. I also love that they’re microwave safe, which makes busy days a little easier. Great quality for the price and always handy to keep stocked at home!

My paper bowls of choice.
Size: 50 Count
I have been a return buyer of these bowls and amazon basics plates, as they are sturdy and well made, even for liquids. I think there is a generous quantity for the price. I use for my to go meals on the way to work, so I dont have my whole kitchen accumulating in my car. They are good sized and you can fit a decent serving. Will keep buying.

Sturdy paper bowls, economical quantity purchase
Size: 300 Count
I previously bought 50 (?) of the paper plates to check the quality and see how well they hold up before making quantity purchases of other paper products. The bowls hold up well though I use them primarily for cut up avocados, sliced tomatoes, cole slaw, etc. I have used them in the microwave under 15 seconds to reheat toasted English muffins with marmalade with no problem. I use Pyrex glass bowls in the microwave for veggies and soups, so I am unable to speak on how well the bowls hold up with hot foods in the microwave. I resisted buying and using paper bowls and plates for a long time; however, with my 80th birthday fast approaching, the fewer dishes I have to wash means less time standing on my feet. I am an experienced shopper, and these quality paper products bought in bulk are the best buy I have found. I recommend them.
