Evening Primrose Plant (Oenothera biennis) For Sale

The Common Evening Primrose plant is a unique beauty perennial that blooms as the sun sets, which is how it got its name. The petals visibly open in the evening and close with the sunrise, creating a strange phenomenon that is special to witness. A native of eastern and central North America, this flower can be found in multiple shades of pink, yellow, and white that seem to glow under the moonlight.

Evening Primrose Plant Details

Family: Onagraceae

Light Requirement: Full sun, Partial shade

Water Needs: Moderate

Height: 6-12 in

Spread: 12-18 in

Growth Rate: Moderate

Soil Preference: Rocky or sandy

Bloom Time: Late spring - late summer

Wildlife Value: Pollinators, Moths, Butterflies, Bees

Notable Characteristics

The Evening Primrose flower can be found in woodlands, prairies, and disturbed anthropogenic sites. It has a basal rosette of leaves that continue up its thick, hairy stem. Long, narrow leaves decrease in size towards the top of the stem, which can grow to be up to six feet tall under the right conditions. Its flowers bloom in a cone shape at the top of the stem. Bees, butterflies, and many other pollinators are attracted to the light lemon scent of the fragrant flowers.

Landscape and Maintenance

A nectar guide pattern is visible to bees and other pollinators, helping them find the nectar source and encouraging pollination. The pattern is printed on the leaves but is invisible to the naked eye, except under UV light. Nocturnal moths pollinate this night-owl flower and bees and other insects in the early morning.

The Evening Primrose is also a host plant for the Primrose Moth and the White-lined Sphinx Moth. The moths are known to lay their eggs on the flower buds, and later, the resulting caterpillars eat the plants’ leaves. This life-cycle support is an important addition to the wildlife community of a native habitat. This moonlit flower is an exciting addition to your garden because of its wildlife value and unique evening blooms. Plant it to increase visual interest and beauty in your garden all day and night!

Not my husky's favorite
Size: Large
No bounce, it's too hard and heavy. My husky only uses it once in a while, it is not his favorite thing to chew on.

Better Than Most, But Still No Match for My Super Chewer
This is a decent chew. It’s made of a softer rubber material and has little to no odor, which I appreciate. It’s been about a week, and while it’s still technically in one piece, it’s starting to show some cracks and tiny puncture holes. Now, keep in mind, my 100-lb pit mix Scooby Doo is a full on chew and destroy hound. If it can be chewed, he’ll find a way to shred it to bits. This toy held up longer than a lot of others but still didn’t make the “indestructible” cut in our house. He likes it, but it’s not his top pick, probably why it’s still alive. Overall, it’s a good toy for the price. Probably not for extreme power chewers like Scoob, but it’ll hold up fine for most dogs and give you a little peace and quiet for a while. Do give it a try, Scooby Doo is a chewer in a class of his own, the fact that this has held up past a one 15 minute session is amazing in itself.

Absolutely thrilled with this
Great price Great find It is heavy but my pup is easily able to carry it around. Perfect for smearing treats on and freezing - keeps him busy for ages - especially with the ridges - thrilled with this

Multifunctional dog toy, fetch, chew, dental health
This toy feels like soft rubber, unlike the super hard plastic Size wise, it would be a good toy to toss and play fetch with. My Aussiedoodle took to it right away. It has numerous nubs that are great for dental health. I use it, as well as other toys with nubs, to offer to my pups with a bit of smeared on it, to help with their dental health. 🤗 Thank you so much for taking the time to read this review, have a FANTASTIC day!!😊 5★

Not for aggressive chewers.
Size: Large
Our dog is a 50lb Pit mix. This toy lasted about a week before he took a hole knuckle off. Happy he did not swallow it.
