Native habitat and growth pattern
The Chinese Money Plant is native to the Yunnan province of southern China, where it grows in shaded, rocky areas at the base of the Himalayas. In the wild, it forms clumps from its rhizome and spreads easily, sending out little plantlets that root nearby. Indoors, it adapts beautifully to container life, producing the “pups” it’s famous for — perfect for sharing with friends.

Size
W6cm nursery pot. Reaches around 20–30cm tall when mature.

Styling tips

  • Perfect for Scandi-inspired or minimalist interiors

  • Works well on shelves, coffee tables, or desks

  • Its small size makes it ideal for grouping with other foliage plants

  • Looks striking in a simple ceramic or textured pot

Pilea peperomioides care guide

Light requirements:
Enjoys bright, indirect light and will tolerate some gentle morning or evening sun. Rotate regularly to keep its shape even.

Watering:
Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Give it a thorough soak, then allow excess water to drain. Avoid leaving it sitting in water.

Feeding:
Feed once a month during spring and summer. We recommend our vegan, organic Original Plant Food — made with seaweed and sustainably sourced ingredients — to encourage lush growth.

Humidity:
Normal home humidity is fine, though it will appreciate occasional misting.

Pet safety:
Completely safe for pets — one of the best family-friendly houseplants.

Propagation:
Easily propagated from the offsets (“pups”) that appear around the base. Gently separate and pot into fresh soil to share with friends.

FAQs

How fast does the Chinese Money Plant grow?
It’s a moderate grower. With good light and regular feeding, it can double in size within a year, reaching 20–30cm tall.

Why are my Pilea leaves drooping?
Drooping leaves usually signal underwatering, but can also happen if it’s in too much direct sunlight. Give it a thorough soak and move to bright, indirect light.

Can I grow my Pilea peperomioides in low light?
It will survive in lower light, but growth will slow and leaves may stretch towards the window. For best results, keep it in bright, indirect light.

Does the Pilea flower indoors?
Yes, though rarely. When very happy, mature plants may produce tiny white flowers on slender stalks in spring or summer.

What’s the best way to repot my Pilea?
Repot every 1–2 years in spring, using fresh, well-draining compost. Choose a pot only 2–3cm wider than the current one to avoid waterlogging.

Anne Helped, I'm Thankful, and She'll Wow You Too!
Format: Hardcover
A small book with a big heart. Lamott writes with honesty, humor, and grace about prayer in a way that is accessible to believers, doubters, and everyone in between. “Help, Thanks, Wow” is simple without being shallow and deeply moving without being heavy. I return to it often.

Why write another review? There are already so many for this book.
Format: Kindle
It shouldn't surprise me that books that I like, by authors that I love, are extremely popular and well reviewed. This is the case with " . We might just as well ask, "Why write another book on prayer? The world is full of them." I could forego the review entirely, but I just can't do that because I love Annie (the author) so much and I cannot pass up the opportunity to say how much I appreciate her life and her work. While this isn't my favorite "Anne Lamott" book, it is certainly worth reading, if for no other reason than the entertainment value. Her words are so skillfully crafted and lyrical that it causes joy to spring up in my soul. This book will provide some insight into prayer for everyone; from the practiced, long-time prayer practitioner to the novice; from believer to agnostic. You will discover aspects of prayer that you had not appreciated before. This is not a technical treatise on prayer, but it did encourage me to pray and to be more faithful in prayer... to be more "in the moment" and to recognize the beauty that is everywhere around us. The day this came out I bought two copies, one for Kindle (which was formatted well and flowed smoothly) and the audio version (which I will listen to the next time through). I have several of Anne's other books in the audio version and I can say it is a real treat when she reads the books herself. Do not hesitate to buy this (or any other) book by Anne Lamott. You will be happily rewarded in the reading.

Understand your loss. Celebrate your gain. Live!
Format: Kindle
A quick look at what makes us human; our principal line of relationship to the Cosmos. Maybe not always reverent, but always livable and believable. This is a book, a primer, on how to deal with the mess of life. Written with enough seriousness and tongue-in-cheek humor to be readable and thought provoking.

An Invitation into the Heart of Reality
Format: Kindle
I love reading Anne Lamott. She helps me feel that it’s okay to be human. She helps me see that prayer is human. It’s the most natural thing you can do. And, really, everybody does it, whether they know it or not. In this delightful book, Ms. Lamott reflects on what she calls three essential prayers: help, thanks, and wow! Such human expressions! She invites us, the readers, into her perspective on life, infused as it is with both the mundane and the mysterious. There are times when it is even threatening. But we are not alone. We have each other, and we have God. (Or, better, God has us.). I don’t know that Ms. Lamott would want to be called an optimist, but she certainly sees the good in the bad (or, maybe after the bad). Life is both, she seems to say, but all is okay. So we ask for help when we’re wise enough (or desperate enough) to do so—both for ourselves and others. And we say thanks because life is full of reasons to be grateful. And there is so much beauty around us—and tragedy too—that we cannot help but erupt with wow! I urge you to read this book. Perhaps, as you read it, you will feel as I did reading it, that you are in a conversation with someone very wise and very compassionate and very real.

Another Thanks and Wow by Anne Lamott!
Format: Hardcover
I was first introduced to Anne Lamott's writing about 25 years ago when I read her book, Bird by Bird. It was a book about how to write and from that moment she became one of my favorite authors. Help, Thanks, Wow is a wonderful book that I have underlined and reread over and over again. Her writing has a voice that many of us can relate to. It's honest and you can feel her pain. She writes with humor to balance the good with the bad. Something that is so important to learn as we go through life. Her descriptions help you see, feel, and smell when she describes "autumn...the colors are broccoli and flame and fox fur. The tang is apples. The rot smells faintly of grapes..." She tells us how to ask for help when you can't do it all by yourself, but how important it is to say thank you, thank you, thank you and Wow for all the things you are grateful for. I loved when she wrote about how service to others is joy ,but how important it is to be kind to yourself. One of my favorite passages was this one, "This morning at six when I awoke, loneliness was sitting on my chest like a dental X-ray apron, even though I was buried in hairy dog love. Help, I am sad and lonely, and already it looks like today is going to be too long. I prayed...I did a kindness to myself, as I would have a troubled friend..." Her descriptions are all like this one and easy to relate to. I loved this book and have given it to friends who have then bought it for other friends. It is definitely a WOW!!!!
