HOW TO PLANT CHRYSANTHEMUMS FROM SEEDS

Chrysanthemum may be grown from seed sown early indoors and transplanted outside after frost, or sown directly in the garden in summer, or grown from potted plants.

Chrysanthemum seeds need up to 16 weeks to flower when grown from seed.

SOWING SEED INDOORS

  • Sow chrysanthemum seeds indoors 2 months before the last spring frost date, using a seed starting kit.
  • Cover the seeds lightly with 1/8 inch of seed starting mix.
  • Keep the soil moist at 70-75 degrees F.
  • Seedlings emerge in 10-21 days.
  • As soon as seedlings emerge, provide plenty of light on a sunny windowsill or grow seedlings 3-4 inches beneath fluorescent plant lights turned on 16 hours per day, off for 8 hours at night. Raise the lights as the plants grow taller. Incandescent bulbs will not work for this process because they will get too hot. Most plants require a dark period to grow, do not leave lights on for 24 hours.
  • Seedlings do not need much fertilizer, feed when they are 3-4 weeks old using a starter solution (half strength of a complete indoor houseplant food) according to manufacturer’s directions.
  • If you are growing in small cells, you may need to transplant the seedlings to 3 or 4 inch pots when seedlings have at least 2 pairs of true leaves before transplanting to the garden so they have enough room to develop strong roots.
  • Before planting in the garden, seedling plants need to be “hardened off”. Accustom young plants to outdoor conditions by moving them to a sheltered place outside for a week. Be sure to protect them from wind and hot sun at first. If frost threatens at night, cover or bring containers indoors, then take them out again in the morning. This hardening off process toughens the plant’s cell structure and reduces transplant shock and scalding.

SOWING DIRECTLY IN THE GARDEN:

  • Direct sow after all danger of frost.
  • Remove weeds and work organic matter into the top 6-8 inches of soil; then level and smooth.
  • Sow seeds evenly and cover with 1/8 inches of fine soil.
  • Firm the soil lightly and keep it evenly moist.
  • Seedlings will emerge in 10-21 days.

PLANTING IN THE GARDEN:

  • Select a location in full sun with good rich, moist organic soil.
  • Prepare the bed by turning the soil under to a depth of 6-12, inches, removing any debris, and lightly raking as level as possible.
  • The addition of organic matter (leaf mold, compost, well-rotted manure) benefits all gardens and is essential in recently constructed neighborhoods.
  • Plant on a cloudy day or in late afternoon to reduce transplant shock.
  • Dig a hole for each plant large enough to amply accommodate the root ball.
  • Remove from the pot the plant and gently loosen the root ball with your hands to encourage good root growth.
  • Place the top of the root ball even with the level of the surrounding soil. Fill with soil to the top of the root ball. Press soil down firmly with your hand.
  • Use the plant tag as a location marker.
  • Thoroughly water and apply a light mulch layer on top of the soil (1-2 inches) to conserve water and reduce weeds.

HOW TO GROW:

  • Keep weeds under control during the growing season. Weeds compete with plants for water, space and nutrients, so control them by either cultivating often or use a mulch to prevent their germination.
  • Mulches also help retain soil moisture and maintain even soil temperatures. For perennials, an organic mulch of aged bark or shredded leaves lends a natural look to the bed and will improve the soil as it breaks down in time.  Always keep mulches off a plant’s stems to prevent possible rot.
  • Careful watering is essential in getting perennials off to a good start. Water thoroughly at least once a week to help new roots grow down deep. Soil should be damp at about 1 inch below the soil surface. You can check this by sticking your finger in the soil. Water early in the morning to give all leaves enough time to dry.  One inch of rain or watering per week is recommended for most perennial plants. You can check to see if you need to add water by using a rain gauge.
  • Until plants become established, some protection from extreme winds and direct, hot sunlight may be necessary.  Good air movement is also important.
  • After new growth appears, a light fertilizer may be applied. Keep granular fertilizers away from the plant crown and foliage to avoid burn injury. Use low rates of a slow release fertilizer, as higher rates may encourage root rots.
  • Chrysanthemums may benefit from being pinched up until the Fourth of July. This should make the plants bushier, and will not prevent blooming as chrysanthemums bloom when the days begin to grow shorter, in the fall.
  • “Deadhead”, remove spent flower heads to encourage continuous flowering and prevent seed development.
  • Remove and discard foliage after a hard frost in fall.
  • In colder regions, apply another layer of mulch (1-2 inches) after the ground freezes in the fall. Evergreen boughs (from Christmas trees) provide additional protection. Remove this mulch in the spring.
  • Divide perennials when plants become overcrowded, bloom size begins to diminish or plants lose their vigor. Divide chrysanthemums in spring, just as they begin to grow. Dig clumps from the ground and with a sharp knife or spade, cut into good sized divisions, each with several growing eyes and plenty of roots. Remove any dead or unhealthy plant parts and cut back stems. Replant one division where the plant was originally and plant the extra divisions elsewhere in your garden or give them away to gardening friends. Plant the divisions immediately, or as soon as possible, and water well.
  • Chrysanthemums may also be propagated from cuttings taken in spring.

GROWING TIPS:

  • Many gardeners do not cut back perennial flower seed heads in the fall, but wait until early spring before the new foliage appears. This provides food for wildlife over the winter.
  • Chrysanthemums make great long lasting, fragrant cut flowers.

Great Cleaning Power and Super Convenient
Color: White, Size: D20Plus, Color: White, Size: D20Plus
The DREAME D20 Plus Robot Vacuum and Mop works really well in my apartment. The suction is very strong and easily picks up dust and pet hair from both carpets and hard floors. I also like the self-emptying feature with the large dust bag, which saves me a lot of time. The mapping is accurate, and the battery lasts long enough to clean the whole place. Overall, it’s a great robot vacuum for the price.

I am very satisfied with the overall experience!
Color: Black, Size: D20Plus, Color: Black, Size: D20Plus
The suction power is really strong. Daily dust, hair and debris can be easily cleaned up, and the ground is obviously much cleaner. Although there are no pets at home, it is enough for daily cleaning. What I like most is its self-dust collection function. The 5L large dust bag has a large capacity and can be used for a long time without dumping garbage. It is really worry-free. It is very friendly to people who do not want to take care of the machine frequently. The drawing is very fast and accurate, and the cleaning route is orderly and will not collide randomly. The APP is easy to operate, and the appointment and remote control are very convenient. Generally speaking, it is very cost-effective, time-saving and effort-saving, and worth buying.

Good Robot Vacuum
Color: Black, Size: D20Plus, Color: Black, Size: D20Plus
This robot vacuum is really easy to use and very smart. After one cleaning cycle, it can remember the size and layout of the rooms, and it also allows you to choose different rooms for cleaning. It cleans very thoroughly, and when it finishes, it automatically returns to the dock to empty the dust and recharge. It has truly saved me a lot of time and has become a very helpful assistant at home. It also runs fairly quietly, so it does not disturb daily life too much. For people who are busy and do not have much time for housework, it is definitely worth buying.

Incredible robot.
Size: 11S MAX, Size: 11S MAX
I have had this vacuum for nearly a year now, running it on an automatic schedule every single day, and I am so grateful for this product and how it has improved my quality of life. This vacuum and its automatic schedule has meant that I rarely see any dust or dog hair on my floor and I no longer have to take the time to vacuum. The amount of dust this machine collects is unbelievable- the photo I included of the yield is from HALF of a cycle. Flooring/obstacles I use my eufy on hard floor and short carpet and it works wonderfully. It does snag on high pile rugs so I try to put my bathroom mat up when I remember. Eufy does get stuck on things so it took some time to determine what picking up I need to do before it’s “shift.” This has not been a nuisance, it’s more of a good motivation to do a quick cleanup. Durability Also, long hair is a challenge and I do have to cut it out of the brush head about once a week. I also recently replaced the brush head which was a great reset. The side spin brush also broke down over a few months and replacing that REALLY improved the power of the machine. I’ll be replacing it as soon as I notice breakage now. Noise I think it has gotten a bit louder over the year I have owned it. I used to be able to sleep through the noise, now it’s a bit too loud for me especially as it gently bangs against the walls (doesn’t scuff though). Overall, this is a gift and I will never not have one for the rest of my life

BEST ROBOVAC EVER!
Size: 11S MAX
This is BEST Robovac you'll ever own, IMHO. I purchased the first robovac made by a different company when these little things were a completely new concept. This is BEST Robovac you'll ever own, IMHO. I purchased the first robovac made by a different company when these little things were a completely new concept. It was such a surprise as to how good it was, and how it made a difference in time spent housekeeping every day. I've been a fan ever since (20+ yrs) and have tried many different brands and models. The Eufy is the best! And I have purchased 3 of this model. Depending upon your budget and specific needs, there are things I've learned, and I'm going to break those points down for your consideration. Possibly they may apply to your situation. These points are some requirements that make all the difference to me and my lifestyle. ~~> #1. Two auxiliary brushes.: This is the most important thing for me and is a no brainer, IMHO. The two brushes, one on each side of the front edge (approx 11 and 2 o'clock) sweep the debris to the underneath center of the unit where it is sucked up. Because there are two, they sweep a larger area, and because the vac covers the same areas more than once, you get better cleaning results. This is very important in kitchens and high traffic areas. Also corners are swept from both sides. #2. Undercarriage rotating beater brush: I have both carpeted and uncarpeted areas. I need more than just suction to lift dust, pet hair, dirt, and debris from my floors. My kitchen does not have carpet so an undercarriage beater brush is not a requirement, but my Family room has carpeting, and my Living room has Oriental wool and silk rugs. They need a light agitation to help lift up the dust so the vacuum can easily suction it up. A beater brush is a major requirement for my floors for this reason. #3 Scheduling option: this is WONDERFUL! Our major living areas are scheduled to vacuum after we've gone to bed, and our bedrooms and bathrooms are scheduled while we are gone during the day. Happy feet! #4. Rechargeable on its own! Need I say more? It goes back to the recharging station to recharge itself when it needs more juice. YAY! We live on three floors, and this is a huge plus for us. #5. The Customer service with this company is amazing! If you have any issues, regardless of how small, they will get back to you, and immediately help. They respond, and do not merely send you to a FAQ link. #6. It is gentle and does not smack into your furniture, scuffing it. #7. The more you use it, the cleaner your house will be. Regular dusting is done on a daily basis so there is less and less dirt and dust to deal with. It is amazing the difference! Weekend freedom! #8. You do not have to do much prep at all, just check for loose cords to not become tangled. When I bought my first robovac I didn't use it too often because I was unnecessarily moving furniture, rugs, floor lamps, trash cans, etc. Then one day, I left a door open and the robovac sneaked out of the room I'd religated it to. When I returned home, the little vac had done my whole house (single level @ 2000 sq feet) and it was GREAT. I realized that all I needed to do from then on was to let it go do its thing. Lesson learned. My Eufys are my workhorses and I recommend this little gem of a vac if you are considering it. IMHO It will be a good investment. It has been for me, and my family (including cats and dogs).
