Spathiphyllum ‘Sweet Sebastiano’ (Peace Lily)

Spathiphyllum ‘Sweet Sebastiano’ is a large-growing Peace Lily cultivar valued for its broad, glossy foliage and strong presence as an indoor feature plant. It is well suited to interior spaces where a lush, tropical look is desired, while remaining relatively low maintenance.

The plant produces large, deep green leaves with a smooth, slightly arching form that creates a full, dense appearance. Under suitable conditions, it also produces classic white spathes (flowers), which rise above the foliage and add contrast to the rich green leaves.

Key Features

‘Sweet Sebastiano’ is known for its larger leaf size compared to standard Peace Lily varieties, giving it a more substantial and architectural appearance.

It is well adapted to indoor environments and can tolerate lower light conditions, making it suitable for offices, homes, and commercial interiors.

In addition to its ornamental value, it is often selected for its ability to perform reliably with minimal care.

Growth Habit and Size

This variety forms a dense, clumping plant with leaves emerging from the base.

Indoors, it typically reaches 0.8 to 1.2 metres in height, with a broad spread that fills out containers well. Growth is moderate under stable indoor conditions.

Care Requirements

Light

Performs best in bright, indirect light but is highly tolerant of low light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

Prefers consistently moist soil. Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between watering, but avoid letting the plant dry out completely.

Water approximately once per week, adjusting based on indoor conditions.

Soil

A well-draining indoor potting mix is suitable. The soil should retain some moisture while allowing excess water to drain freely.

Temperature and Humidity

Thrives in typical indoor temperatures between 18°C and 26°C. Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

Prefers moderate to high humidity but can adapt to standard indoor environments.

Maintenance

Remove spent flowers and any yellowing leaves at the base to maintain appearance.

Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and keep foliage looking clean.

Fertilise lightly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser.

Repot every 1–2 years as needed. Division can be used to propagate new plants.

Common Issues

Drooping leaves are usually a sign of underwatering but typically recover quickly after watering.

Yellowing leaves may indicate overwatering or poor drainage.

Brown leaf tips can result from dry air or inconsistent watering.

Pests such as spider mites or fungus gnats may occasionally occur.

Applications

Spathiphyllum ‘Sweet Sebastiano’ is suitable for:

Indoor feature planting
Office and commercial interiors
Low-light environments
Reception areas and lobbies
Residential living spaces

Its large foliage and adaptability make it a reliable choice for interior greenery.

Huge help...
This was a huge help to me as I put together a lesson for my church on the Resurrection. There are some very devotional, personal aspects to this work as well as very helpful apologetics information.

Amazing compilation of historical facts that I never heard before
Format: Kindle
Our local priest quoted from this book on Easter Sunday and that made me curious to read it. The book starts slowly, but the second half is a great history lesson, loaded with information that I had never known. Compelling.

Excellent Introduction to Hemodynamics for a Resident or Fellow
Format: Paperback
Background: PGY-2 Internal Medicine Resident with no prior hemodynamic monitoring experience Overall: Fantastic introduction to the field. The author will assume you know the following prior to starting the book: - Moderate understanding of EKG’s - Anatomical arrangement of the heart and its vessels - Understanding some of the practical effects of atrial fibrillation (lack of an atrial contraction, etc) Specifics: The book can be picked up without significant prior knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring. I initially tried to read Hemodynamic Rounds, and the authors of that book did not introduce significant pieces of information, such as the normal pressures of the heart chambers, what each wave means on the monitor, and how is each chamber of the heart/vessel represented on the monitor (where do I look to see the left ventricular pressure?). In contrast to that, Dr. Hanna provides a book that appears to be intended for residents/cardiology fellows or zealous pre-cardiology interns who are looking for an introduction to the field that maintains enough depth to be practical. Its first section goes over the relevant physiology and pathophysiology and the mechanical/hemodynamic representation. The second section is a series of practice problems with excellent explanations which reviews all of the prior concepts and helps to solidify them in the reader’s mind. The reader will learn to appreciate the relevant waveforms and their relevant representations, the normal values for the cardiac chambers and vessels, and eventually the changes to these normal values during pathologic states. As others have mentioned, it is concise, but this also makes it a bit dense initially when the reader encounters the basic four waveforms and attempts to memorize the normal pressures. Once you get over that initial learning curve, the rest of the first section goes a bit faster. Overall, I’m very happy I purchased this book, and I feel that it has prepared me very well for time spent in the cardiac ICU.
