Plant Profile

Scientific name: Hoya Compacta

Common name(s): Hoya Hindu Rope, Krinkle Curl, Wax Plant, Porcelain Flower

Family: Asclepiadaceae (miilkweed family), Apocynaceae (dogbane) family

Native Range: Tropical regions such as Latin America, Asia, Australia

Description & Care:

Hoya carnosa compacta or the Hindu rope plants are native to India as the name suggests. They have draping succulent-like vines that produce clusters of star-shaped waxy flowers. It’s also called ‘Krinkle Kurl’ due to its thick, twisted, curly, cupped leaves. Hindu rope plants can be found in solid green or with variegated leaves. It is very easy to care for as long as you have plenty of light and are careful with your watering—you do not want to overwater. It is a slow-growing plant, but worth it for all its beauty!

Light: It will thrive and be its happiest in bright indirect light!

Water: Avoid overwatering by allowing the top inch or two of soil to dry between waterings. One sign that the plant needs to be watered is that the leaves will get wrinkly when it's time to water.

Temperature: 65-85F

Humidity: They like the humid conditions you'd find in the rainforest, between about 40-60% humidity - can handle normal household humidity

Feeding: Fertilize during active growth once a month which typically occurs during the spring and summer months

Propagation: Cuttings

Common Pests: Look out for mealy bugs, spider mites, and aphids - pests can hide in the little crevices

Toxicity: Non-toxic to humans and pet friendly!

Best dog toy yet! My large breed year old pup is very hard on toys and this one stands up to the wild playing and chewing! Excellent purchase I’ll definitely buy it again to have extras around and I’d definitely give it as a gift! Happy dog happy life! GREAT PRODUCT

Kong didn't survive this guy.
He had it for an hour.. We played tug for around 10 minutes then he took it off and chewed it up.. I thought Kongs were tougher to chew up.. very dissapointed.

One of the best dog toys we've found
This is one of my little girl's favorite toys. She's an aggressive chewer so at first we followed the manufacturers instructions not to let her use as a chew toy. It was purchased in January 2025, but it's holding up just fine. She likes to turn it into a pretzel for some reason, but hey it keeps her entertained! Highly recommend.

Good for play but don’t leave out to be chewed on
With two labs we need durable toys. This can stand up to the teeth when pulling but we can’t leave it laying around or it has chunks chewed out of it. And it’s not the toys fault that my girls can’t figure out how to each take a side, so it’s a human vs dog pull toy.

Toy is strong enough for a Rottweiler.
This is one of my dog’s favorite toys. He is a Rottweiler so I have to get him strong, sturdy toys. He hasn’t broken it yet!
