Aglaonema 'Red Valentine'

Aglaonema 'Red Valentine' is a compact Chinese evergreen cultivar with broad glossy leaves, red-pink centres, green margins and defined green veining. New leaves rise from a short central crown, giving young plants a neat layered shape, while mature plants become fuller as basal shoots develop.

The colour spreads across much of the blade, and the green edge gives each leaf a clear outline. In a pot, Aglaonema 'Red Valentine' stays compact and builds density slowly through short stems and basal shoots.

Aglaonema 'Red Valentine' leaf shape and pattern

  • Growth habit: Compact clumping crown with short stems and a rounded indoor outline.
  • Leaf shape: Broad oval to lance-shaped leaves with a smooth, glossy surface.
  • Colour pattern: Red-pink centres, green margins and green venation.
  • Pot behaviour: Slow to moderate growth with width added through basal shoots.

Aglaonema 'Red Valentine' indoor growth

Aglaonema are evergreen aroids from warm, sheltered habitats from north-eastern India through tropical Asia to Papua New Guinea. Aglaonema 'Red Valentine' grows indoors with bright filtered light, temperatures above 18 °C without cold draughts and a potting mix that does not stay wet.

The name Aglaonema comes from Greek roots meaning bright or clear and thread, referring to the stamens.

Older stems may become cane-like with age, while younger plants hold most of their foliage close to the crown. Warmth above 18 °C, filtered light and a draining mix reduce brown or translucent patches on the red-pink leaves.

Care essentials for Aglaonema 'Red Valentine'

  • Light: Place in bright filtered light. Morning or late-afternoon sun through a sheer curtain is usually suitable.
  • Watering: Water when the upper 2–4 cm of substrate feels dry. Keep the substrate lightly moist during active growth.
  • Substrate: Use an airy aroid mix with coco coir or fine bark, perlite or pumice, and a small moisture-holding organic fraction.
  • Drainage: Let excess water leave the pot fully after watering, especially in decorative cachepots.
  • Temperature: Keep above 18 °C and away from cold draughts. This helps new leaves emerge without stalling or curling.
  • Humidity: Moderate household humidity is usually enough. Very dry heated air may crisp the finest leaf edges.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly every 4–6 weeks during active growth with a diluted complete fertiliser.
  • Repotting: Move up one pot size when roots fill the container and watering becomes noticeably more frequent.
  • Pruning: Remove ageing lower leaves at the base. Bare older stems can be shortened above a node.
  • Propagation: Root stem sections with nodes or divide basal shoots once they have their own roots.

Reading Aglaonema 'Red Valentine' leaves and roots

  • Soft yellow leaves: Check for wet substrate, cool roots and poor drainage. Allow the mix to dry slightly before watering again.
  • Brown leaf patches: Move the plant out of direct sun, hot glass or cold draughts.
  • Loose, stretched growth: Increase filtered light gradually and rotate the pot so the crown does not lean strongly toward the light.
  • Crisp tips: Review watering pattern, fertiliser strength and dry indoor heat.

Aglaonema 'Red Valentine' safety

Keep Aglaonema 'Red Valentine' out of reach of pets and children that may eat the foliage. Insoluble calcium oxalate crystals in the plant can irritate the mouth and throat if ingested, and sap contact may irritate sensitive skin.

Red-pink leaves, green margins and green venation stay neat in a compact indoor crown.

Chicken Flavor Good, But 🔄 Rotation-Resistant✖; Best for Simpler Chewers
Size: X-Small, Color: Ring Bone, Size: X-Small, Color: Ring Bone
🐾 Hi, I’m PVD; plush sophisticate, chew critic, and active curator of rotational toy relevance. This ring bone and I never fully bonded. I sampled it maybe five times in my entire puppyhood before quietly returning it to the bin (with a single judgmental glance). Still, it does have value for the right pup. ⭐ Why I originally wanted to love it: ✔️ XS size works well for very young puppies ✔️ Chicken flavor lasts impressively long ✔️ Freezing offers temporary gum relief ✔️ Durable and safe; no odd odors or shredding 🌀 Why it’s now a respectful 3-star chew in my rotation: ✘ Never became a go-to toy (5 uses max in my life) ✘ Ring shape felt awkward, not natural or chic; hard to grip and maneuver ✘ Texture too tame vs. nubs or detailed chew surfaces ✘ When I was smaller, I much preferred the Nylabone Baby Blue Bone Chew Toy with nubs (my personal classic), and have since matured into nightly Nylabone “Nubz” edible bones This Ring Bone is Best For: • Very young puppies with minimal chew preferences • Dogs who like simple textures and circular shapes • Those just starting enrichment chew play • Freezer treat rotations (briefly) 🚫 Not ideal for: picky pups, advanced chewers, or dogs who analyze toy ergonomics (like myself). 📝 Final Re-Barks: A strong, well-made chew, but lacked the intrigue to make my permanent rotation. Works for basic chew enjoyment; not for pups with elevated taste or toy ambition. — PVD (Chew Strategist, Textural Analyst & Aspire-to-Vine Reviewer 🐶💼)

Puppy loves it!
Size: X-Large, Color: Teething Bone, Size: X-Large, Color: Teething Bone
My small puppy loves this bone! I originally purchased this for a larger dog, but my small 10 pound puppy loves it more. It’s good quality and a softer material for puppies!

A hit, but could be stronger
Size: Medium, Color: Ring Bone, Size: Medium, Color: Ring Bone
Gave this to my 11 week old pittie, and she did significant damage within 15 mins. She left a pile of chewed bits on the couch but thankfully didn't eat them. Definitely don't leave unsupervised. That said, she LOVED it and it seemed to help her teething gums so, I'm still giving it a 4/5 Puppy pics for tax

My Aussie loves this bone!
This wishbone is so durable! My Australian shepherd is a big cheese and this is her go-to chew toy. It's a fave! She has spent HOURS chewing on this bone and it has held up super well. It has no smell but understand she can taste the flavor of it. I love having something she can chew on that is safe for her that she enjoys. Great value.

Durable, Great Value Dog Bone!
We’ve ordered several of these that have lasted for months, and my dogs are still working on them. Months. That alone feels like a small miracle. Normally, chews last about 10 minutes. Not this one. This thing is built like it trained for battle. It keeps them busy, satisfied, and focused on something that is actually meant to be chewed. And the best part? It’s way more affordable in the long run. Instead of constantly buying new toys, chews, or replacing destroyed shoes, this one just keeps going. Definitely worth every penny and then some. If you have determined chewers, this is the chew/bone you’ve been looking for.
