Dracaena angolensis 'Rocket' – Cylindrical Snake Plant with Upright Fan Growth

Dracaena angolensis 'Rocket' (still widely sold under the older name Sansevieria cylindrica) is a cultivar of Dracaena angolensis (Welw. ex Carrière) Byng and Christenh. This rhizomatous succulent is known for its stiff, cylindrical leaves that emerge from underground rhizomes in a striking fan arrangement. Each rod-like leaf is grey-green, patterned with indistinct darker bands, and tapers to a sharp point. The 'Rocket' form is distinguished by its more upright, symmetrical fan structure, giving it a bold, architectural look compared to thinner-leaved cultivars such as 'Spaghetti'.

What Makes Dracaena 'Rocket' Distinct

  • Growth Habit: Compact, upright fans of cylindrical leaves rising from a rhizomatous base.
  • Leaf Form: Stout, rod-like leaves with ribbed surfaces and sharp tips.
  • Coloration: Grey-green leaves with subtle darker banding for a natural striped effect.
  • Collector Value: Rarer cultivar with a more structured, sculptural silhouette than standard forms.

Natural Origin

The species Dracaena angolensis is native to Angola and surrounding regions of southern Africa, where it thrives in arid, rocky habitats. Known for extreme drought tolerance, it has long been grown in cultivation under the synonym Sansevieria cylindrica. The 'Rocket' cultivar was selected for its strong, upright leaf arrangement, which enhances its visual impact in both minimalist and decorative displays.

Care Guide for Dracaena 'Rocket'

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but adapts to partial sun and lower light conditions.
  • Watering: Highly drought-tolerant; water sparingly, allowing soil to dry fully between waterings.
  • Soil: Requires a very well-draining mineral-rich mix, such as cactus or succulent substrate.
  • Temperature: Best kept between 18 – 27 °C; avoid frost.
  • Feeding: Apply diluted succulent fertilizer a few times during the growing season.
  • Containers: Shallow, wide pots suit its fan-like spread and rhizomatous growth.

Considerations in Cultivation

  • Overwatering: The most common cause of decline; roots and rhizomes rot in waterlogged soil.
  • Growth Rate: Naturally slow; adds leaves gradually each year.
  • Pest Watch: Can attract mealybugs or spider mites under stress, especially in very dry air.
  • Toxicity: Like other Dracaena, toxic to pets if ingested.

Why Grow Dracaena 'Rocket'

Dracaena 'Rocket' offers a more robust, upright alternative to the slender 'Spaghetti' cultivar. Its strong fan-shaped growth and cylindrical leaves make it an excellent architectural element in plant arrangements. With minimal care needs and striking form, it is equally at home as a statement piece in modern interiors or as part of a succulent collection.

Etymology

The genus name Dracaena comes from the Ancient Greek δράκαινα (drakaina), meaning “female dragon,” in reference to the red resin (“dragon’s blood”) produced by some species. The epithet angolensis denotes its origin in Angola.

Add Dracaena 'Rocket' to Your Collection

If you want a succulent with strong lines and a bold architectural profile, Dracaena angolensis 'Rocket' is a perfect choice. Order today and enjoy its resilience, drought tolerance, and striking form in your home or plant collection.

Wow. Just wow. An amazing read
Format: Kindle
This book was eloquently written, or should I say the authors writing style is very eloquent? I loved the characters, and the story was quite compelling. I absolutely loved the FMC, she's a BA who doesn't take any crap & gives as good as she gets. A certain person certainly got his just desserts & then some, the earlier scenes of which were quite satisfying, had me punching the air & everything haha. All in all 20/10, great read

My opinion
Format: Kindle
Let me preface this by saying I really liked the story and the characters however, this book is in desperate need of some sort of editing. It's not misspelled words or formatting, but continuous run on sentences. Redundancies within the sentences. There were a couple of paragraphs that I had to go back and reread 3 or 4 times. Overall, I'd say it was worth the read.

Beautiful
Format: Kindle
I love omegaverses I had looked at this one multiple times thinking it's just another book about cocky rock star guys that let fame get to their heads and there are parts like that so I wasn't 100% off. I started reading the second book and met the fmc Astraea from the first one, after she had a run in with the aphla from the gym.😁 it gave me the push to stop and read book one first and im so glad I did this book was amazing their was so many characters I fell in love with hoping they will find their happily ever after. the guys were great, the plot was 🎯, and the ending had me 😭😭😭. I was wondering how nate could ever redeem himself, and he did. the last scene with him was sad, but I also felt it was beautiful. thank you to the author for making a beautiful omegaverse book that gave me all the feels. now I'm jumping straight into book two.

Knot their Omega
Format: Kindle
It took me a day to really get into the book, there is a lot happening in the beginning of the story. I wish there was more of a time frame because I felt like something’s happened quickly but they were farther away than I thought so that was a little confusing to me. I felt like there was so much happening but also not enough. As for the story itself I enjoyed it, it was different than other OV I’ve read. Bring the tissues, you will need them. They guys were great, I wish we saw more of Kai and Kenjis relationship. As for Nate…… IYKYK. I enjoyed this book, my first from this author and look forward to reading about Kamaris story. Book: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Spice: 🌶️.5/5

Has Potential, Poorly Executed
Format: Kindle
I really really wanted to enjoy this book and was looking forward to reading it. However there were just one too many convoluted plot points, sentences just did not flow nicely at times, and I was left with a lot of confusion on my end. I think it has the bones of being a great story but seems like it was rushed and I had to push myself to finish the last of the book and was left with an unsatisfying ending. It’s definitely different from other omegaverse novels I’ve read but not for good reasons. I really think it could be great but needs some serious tweaking and editing before I’d read it again.
