Epipremnum aureum ‘Jade’, commonly known as Jade Pothos or Green Pothos, is a classic, evergreen trailing plant from the Araceae family. Native to the Solomon Islands, this cultivar is one of the most reliable and easy-going members of the pothos group, prized for its uniform, deep green foliage.

Unlike highly variegated types such as ‘Marble Queen’ or ‘Golden Pothos’, the Jade variety has solid, glossy green heart-shaped leaves. This simplicity gives it a lush, jungle-like aesthetic, perfect for creating a dense, trailing display. Its minimalist look also makes it especially versatile, complementing both modern and traditional interiors.

As a trailing or climbing vine, Epipremnum Jade is ideal for hanging baskets, shelves, or training on a moss pole or trellis. With proper care, its vines can reach several metres indoors, offering an abundance of leafy greenery.

Epipremnum aureum ‘Jade’ – Care Guide

Light

Tolerates a wide range of light conditions, from bright, indirect light to low light. Stronger light encourages faster growth, while lower light slows it down but does not affect the solid green colour. Avoid harsh direct sun, which may scorch the leaves.

Watering

Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Keep soil lightly moist in spring and summer, but never waterlogged. In winter, reduce watering slightly. Overwatering can cause root rot, while underwatering may result in drooping leaves.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Best in 18–26°C. Protect from draughts and avoid prolonged exposure below 12°C.

  • Humidity: Adaptable to average household humidity, but will thrive with moderate to high humidity.

Soil and Potting

Use a free-draining, peat-free houseplant compost mixed with perlite or orchid bark. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the mix and give roots more room.

Feeding

Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. No feeding required in winter.

Pruning and Training

Prune stems to control length and encourage bushier growth. The plant can be trained vertically on a moss pole or trellis, or left to trail freely. Cuttings propagate easily in water, soil, or moss.

Growth and Maturity

A vigorous grower under good conditions, capable of producing vines several metres long. Indoors, it retains its neat heart-shaped green foliage throughout the year.

Common Issues

  • Yellowing leaves: Usually from overwatering.

  • Drooping leaves: A sign of underwatering.

  • Leggy growth: Indicates the plant needs more light.

  • Pests: Occasionally mealybugs, thrips, or spider mites.

Background and Benefits

Often considered the “original” pothos, Epipremnum Jade has been a favourite indoor plant for generations. Its lush, solid-green leaves symbolise simplicity and vitality. Like other pothos cultivars, it also helps improve air quality, making it both decorative and functional.

Embitterment in regard to AI
Format: Kindle
AI is one of the most important innovations in the last decades. But the author of this book claims that the current application of AI is bad. It requires computers that use rare material, the mining of which harms the environment, and it uses inaccurate training data, to list some of the arguments presented in this book. But when considering these drawbacks against AI's blessing (automatic translation, contribution to medical research, etc.), the criticism seems to be not justified. The author blames AI for searching order in an infinitely complex world (in the Conclusion chapter), but she ignores that this is exactly what science does. The book also includes many interesting reviews of the history of science and AI. I enjoyed very much reading these reviews.

Engaging study of the underpinnings of AI
Format: Kindle
This “atlas” maps what is often forgotten when discussing AI: material needs like the extraction of lithium and other minerals from the earth with the destruction of nature that requires and the workers, as well as the epistemological constraints of classification and the false proxies of data. The book is engagingly written and easy to follow while richly sourced. I’ll probably assign at least a couple of chapters to undergrads in our digital culture program. I would have loved an audio book version - but I listened to it using automatic text to speech on my phone and it was surprisingly not awful. This is the first time I’ve done that with a whole book.

A Critical Perspective on the Hype and Reality of AI
Format: Hardcover
Of the many books I have read on AI, having been interested in the topic for 35 years, this is perhaps the most profound. When I read the abstract I thought the goals for the book were going to be almost impossible to achieve. But Kate Crawford has succeeded wonderfully. I find myself referring back to marked sections of the book — and perhaps most importantly questioning some long-held beliefs I have had on the topics. I have shared the book with friends with less time invested in the topic — and they were equally glowing. I hope this finds its way onto the summer reading lists of people with far-flung interests.

My grandson loves these books!
Format: Hardcover
These books are a big hit with my grandson. They are full of facts about each animal and by comparing strengths and weaknesses determine which would overcome the other. He’s learning so much about animals’ behavior and survival skills.
