The Pseudolarix bonsai, also known as Pseudolarix amabilis or the golden larch, is a tree native to eastern Asia, valued in the bonsai craft for its attractive foliage and the beautiful color change of its leaves in autumn. It is a deciduous tree, with leaves that turn golden or orange before falling, making it a special specimen in bonsai collections.

Description: Pseudolarix amabilis grows slowly and can be shaped into various stylistic forms in the bonsai art. The leaves resemble those of conifers but differ in that they fall during the cold season. The cones are small and spherical, adding an extra decorative element.

Care:

  1. Light: The Pseudolarix bonsai prefers strong light but should be protected from direct sun during summer to avoid leaf burn. The ideal placement includes a few hours of direct sun in the morning or evening, with partial shade during the day.

  2. Watering: Watering should be regular and adjusted according to the season. The soil must be kept moist but not soaked. Avoid letting water stagnate in the saucer under the pot.

  3. Humidity: Although it tolerates variable humidity well, misting the foliage can help, especially during hot, dry summers or if the bonsai is kept indoors.

  4. Fertilizing: Fertilize from spring to autumn with a balanced fertilizer specially formulated for bonsai, following the instructions on the package.

  5. Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years in spring before the plant begins active growth. This involves trimming the roots and completely replacing the soil to ensure a fresh and healthy environment.

  6. Protection against cold: Since it is a leaf-shedding tree, the Pseudolarix bonsai must be protected during winter in cold climate regions. It may require shelter in a cool place, but shielded from frost.

The Book of Tapping by Sophie Merle is a free ...
Format: Paperback
The Book of Tapping by Sophie Merle is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in early February. The Book of Tapping discusses the use of EFT on the face, upper torso, and hands to loosen energy blockages along different meridians of the body and to relieve emotional stress in addition to physical ailments. There is mention of case studies, self-assessment techniques, a map of meridians, and glossary of EFT-related institutions and practitioners, but it's loosely held together by little else.

A Brilliant Dog's Life
Format: Paperback
This unique book bursts on the literary scene with a gathering series of striking life perceptions that deserves nothing less than approbation. Pug has been called "a worldlier Snoopy," but that worldliness is not based on cynicism. Rather, Pug has a gift for living and learning within a well-honed optimism. One could do worse than to follow his example. This is a fine, clear, accessible read that will stay with you a long time.
