At any given time the plant carries leaves at several colour stages, creating a warm, gradient display.

Philodendron 'Painted Lady' is a cultivated hybrid, thought to involve Philodendron erubescens. Philodendrons as a genus are native to the tropical Americas, where they grow as hemiepiphytes in forest habitats.
