The Pond Edge & Wetland Wildflower Seed Mix meadow seed mix contains 17 varieties that are suitable and can thrive in and around the pond edge and/or wetland areas. Once established, from year 2 onwards, the aim is to have different species of height, colour, and appearance from May through to August.

This mixture contains 100% wildflower seed, with NO GRASSES, and is ideal for those situations where you wish to sow on established grass. Likewise, it can be sown straight on to a weed-free seedbed. This mix is 100% native UK origin.

If you are sowing on to established grass it is prudent to add additional Yellow Rattle as this will help to ensure that the existing grass doesn't start to dominate the wildflowers.

You can buy Yellow Rattle in a variety of pack sizes to suit the sowing area that you require [HERE]

Pond Edge & Wetland Wildflower Seed Mix Information

When to Sow: Throughout the year (bar the depths of winter) but best results from August to October then March to April.
Soil / Site Conditions: Most, but sunny site.
How to Sow:

Pond Edge & Wetland Wildflower Seed Mix can be used to overseed into existing grass, provided the sward comprises only fine leaved grasses and does not include ryegrass, agricultural species or weeds.

Existing Grass
Firstly mow the grass area very short. Using a rake or harrow, the grass then needs to be raked to remove the thatch (the layer of dead grass and moss that builds up on the soil surface). If necessary, then use a 3 pronged hoe to break up the soil surface. This ‘scarification’ is really important; the seed must be able to reach the soil surface. Aim for at least 50% bare soil, preferably more - as Monty says you need to beat the hell out of the grass! Broadcast the seed at a rate of 4.5gm per sq metre (The seed can be mixed with sharp sand to ensure a more even spread). Walk over the seeded area ensuring that the total ground is walked upon. This is to ensure that the seeds are in contact with the soil, which is vital for germination.

Seedbed
Pond Edge & Wetland Wildflower Seed Mix performs best in low nutrient soils, which haven’t been heavily fertilised in the past. For best results sow into bare soil after clearing all existing plants and weeds from the area.

Cultivate the ground to a depth of 10cm to relieve compaction and create a fine level tilth, free from obstructions (to allow for mowing at a later stage). Finish the seedbed by treading or lightly rolling the area, so that it is firm enough to stand on without leaving indentations.

Care:

Carefully water during dry weather, and keep on top of removing weeds until the meadow begins to establish.

Year 1
Perennial species can be slow to establish and are unlikely to flower in the first year. Annual species will generally flower in year one. During the first year remove any weeds which grow before they run to seed. Weed growth is common due to the action of disturbing the ground. The area can be cut once the flowers have died back in the autumn. We recommend leaving the area undisturbed for as long as possible, ideally until February / March (before the first spring growth). The dead flowers and stems provide a diverse environment which is a haven for wildlife through the winter months. Cut the area down to around 10cm using a scythe, strimmer or mower, leaving the cuttings for up to a week before removing. This will allow them to dry and shed seeds back into the soil.

Year 2
After twelve months the sward should be well established and requires little additional maintenance. Simply follow the same annual cut pattern (either in spring or autumn depending on your preference). As an ongoing process, observe and remove any weeds which invade the area. Over time, some species within the mixture may become more dominant due to environmental factors and natural selection. To encourage diversity, simply reduce the number of dominant plants in order to restore the balance.

Germination of wildflower seeds can be erratic and some species require vernalisation before germination in spring of the following year, e.g. a period of prolonged cold temperatures.

Be aware that it can take several years for the meadow to become established, patience is required, just as in nature!

Grant Morrison continues his mastery
Batman and Robin Volume 2 continues the story of Dick as Batman, Damian as Robin, replacing Bruce Wayne in Gotham after the events of Final Crisis (no spoilers here, despite the age). The artwork is clever, everchanging in style, and intricate; I find new details almost every time I re-read, it has such depth. I wrote an absolutely glowing recommendation for Volume 1, and this deserves similar praise, as does Volume 3 and The Return of Bruce Wayne. Highly recommend the entire arc

YOU NEED TO OWN THIS BOOK!!!
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
If you are a fan of Grant Morrison’s Batman, but already own other editions… or if you have never read this run before… or if you just love Batman… YOU NEED TO OWN THIS BOOK!!! It is the BEST way to read Grant Morrison’s Batman! This Deluxe sized book is nicely constructed with stitched binding and nice thick pages. The paper feels a slightly heavier stock and is slightly less glossy, than that of the previous hardcover editions. The color in this new omnibus also seems more vibrant as well. It has no new bonus content other than an introduction by Mike Marts. Tony Daniel’s variant covers for Batman #676-#683 are now at the back of the book along with Adam Kubert’s variant cover for Batman #655. Thankfully this omnibus not only collects all the issues from ‘Batman & Son’, ‘The Black Glove’ and ‘Batman RIP’ but they’ve now finally included an abridged version of issues #30 & #47 from the ’52’ series. The pages included focus on Bruce undergoing the Thögal ritual in the caves of Nanda Parbat. These events are later brought up by Tim Drake to Alfred in Batman #676 ‘Batman RIP’, and explain why Tim was concerned with Bruce’s state of mind. One of the BEST new inclusions (exclusive to this omnibus) are two brand new pages written and drawn by Chris Burnham. These new pages fill in events for ‘The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul’. The new pages are placed just after Batman #670 and another after Batman #671. This will save you from having to read a drawn out cross-over event, where only two of the issues were actually written by Morrison. Directly after ‘Batman RIP’ concludes there are two pages of excerpts from ‘Final Crises’ bracketing Batman issues #682 & #683 ‘Final Crisis: Last Rites’. These excerpts set up the events and give actual context as to what’s going on, rather than reading ‘Last Rites’ over and over trying to figure out what was going on like I had to. The second page of ‘Final Crisis’ excepts shows what happened to Batman, that set up the events for ‘Batman & Robin: Batman Reborn’ where….. (((((SPOILER!!!))))(((((SPOILER!!!))))(((((SPOILER!!!))))(((((SPOILER!!!)))) (((((SPOILER!!!)))) Dick Grayson takes over as Batman. (((((SPOILER!!!)))) (((((SPOILER!!!))))(((((SPOILER!!!))))(((((SPOILER!!!))))(((((SPOILER!!!)))) Sure this “spoiler” is many years old, but you always have to try to think of new readers. Grant Morrison’s Batman is not only one of my favorite Batman runs, but it’s also one of my ALL-TIME favorite comic runs as well. There are not many comic stories that I can read and re-read cover to cover. I have read this run numerous times, and can safely say that I have read it more than any other story. Sometimes I’ll even start another re-read after I’ve just finished. One of the many things I love about this run is Morrison’s voice for Batman. He can be intimidating. He's not someone you would want to mess with, but he's also very cool. He has a likable quality. He has heart. Personally I feel there are few writers that even come close to capturing Batman and supporting characters as well as he does, especially his voice for Alfred Pennyworth. Morrison's dialog between members of the Bat-family is a pure joy to read. It's fun spending time with them. I’m absolutely thrilled to add this omnibus to my Grant Morrison collection, and will be eagerly looking forward to the other volumes! As I’ve saiid before, if you are a Batman fan then you really do need to own this book! The story continues in

Grant Morrison and Batman Omnibus, You need to own this
Format: Hardcover
I never bought an Omnibus before, I could never decide which one to buy. I got this on my recommendations and it brings great stories like Batman & Son, Batman The Black Glove and Batman R.I.P. 3 phenomenal stories plus so much extra content. The guest stars are great from Damian starting as Robin, Tim Drake, Dick Grayson, Batman Inc, The great Bat-Mite, Ras Al Ghul, Talia, Bane, The Joker, Man-Bat, Alfred who steals the show as always, Gordon, The return of Batman of Zur-En-Arrh which if you know a little bit about the comics it's an amazing suit full of color and the way Grant makes it modern is awesome. The art is amazing, the writing is sharp, the cameos and call backs are incredible. The price is great for some much content. The best story of the 3, is Batman R.I.P.. just when you think Batman is down, he always comes back for more. Go and click add to cart and buy it, you won't regret it.
