The mix your aroids actually want. Molly’s Aroid Mix is a chunky, soil-free potting blend designed for tropical houseplants that hate soggy roots. This well-aerated mix drains fast, resists compaction, and keeps oxygen flowing—helping plants like Monstera, Philodendron, Alocasia, and Anthurium thrive indoors. Proudly made in the USA, it comes in a resealable, recyclable bag to stay fresh between uses.

Ingredients

Over 20 organic + mineral components, pH-balanced and pest-free.

  • Orchid bark (fir), coir fiber & chips
  • Expanded clay, perlite, horticultural charcoal
  • Canadian sphagnum peat moss
  • Worm castings, calcitic & dolomitic limestone
  • Beneficial fungi (Rhizophagus irregularis) & bacteria (Bacillus pumilus)
  • Natural nutrients + wetting agent

Benefits

  • Stops root rot & yellow leaves – Drains quickly, resists compaction, and keeps roots from drowning.
  • Cleaner than soil – Gnat-resistant and free of fertilizers, pests, and diseases.
  • Builds stronger plants – Mycorrhizae + microbes extend root systems, improve nutrient uptake, and boost natural defenses.
  • Lasts longer – Breaks down slowly, meaning fewer repots, less plant stress, and more savings.

FAQs

1. How is Molly’s Aroid Mix different from typical big-box soils?

The difference comes down to structure and water management. Most mass-market soils are made of fine particles that compact quickly, holding excess moisture around roots. While that might work outdoors, it can be disastrous in pots, where poor aeration and waterlogging lead to root rot and declining plant health.

Molly’s Aroid Mix is intentionally built for container plants:

  • Drainage without drought – it holds just enough water while letting excess drain away.
  • Airflow where roots need it most – large, chunky ingredients create pockets for oxygen and nutrient movement.
  • Balanced chemistry – pH levels are optimized for nutrient uptake.
  • Cleaner than soil – free of pests, pathogens, and soil-borne diseases.
  • Stable structure – supports roots and anchors the plant without suffocating it.

2. Do I need to add anything to Molly’s Aroid Mix?

No additional ingredients are required. The blend is complete on its own, combining organic materials and inert minerals that cover a plant’s essential needs. It includes beneficial fungi and bacteria that extend root systems and improve nutrient absorption—features you won’t find in typical off-the-shelf soil. While you can experiment with mixing in additives, the formula is designed to stand alone as a full-service potting medium.

3. What plants is Molly’s Aroid Mix suited for?

This mix is designed for any indoor plant that benefits from a chunky, well-aerated substrate. That includes many of the most popular tropicals and houseplants—Monstera, Philodendron, Alocasia, Anthurium, Fiddle Leaf Fig, Calathea, Aglaonema, and more. By resisting compaction and encouraging airflow around roots, it supports stronger growth and reduces the stress common to container-grown plants. If you’re unsure about a specific plant, reach out—most indoor species that dislike soggy soil will do well in this mix.

4. How often should I replace the mix?

On average, once a year. That timing aligns with normal repotting cycles as plants outgrow their containers. Molly’s Aroid Mix is made with ingredients that decompose slowly, so it can remain effective for longer periods. When refreshing, don’t worry about removing every piece from the roots—material that clings to the root ball can continue to provide structure and nutrients in the new pot.

5. What’s the best way to water with this mix?

Think “thorough but infrequent.” Most plants in Molly’s Aroid Mix will need water every 1–2 weeks, depending on the plant type, pot size, and your environment. Because the mix drains rapidly, it’s important to let water evenly saturate the pot before flowing through the bottom.

For deeper hydration and healthier root growth, occasional bottom watering is recommended: place the pot in a shallow tray of water for 30–60 minutes. This allows the mix to wick moisture upward, ensuring the entire root zone is rehydrated and encouraging roots to grow downward.

6. How much does one bag cover?

A 5-quart bag goes further than you’d expect:

  • Roughly 10–12 small (4") pots
  • 6–8 medium (5") pots
  • 4–6 larger (6") pots

Because the ingredients decompose slowly, the mix lasts longer than standard soils, making it both a premium and cost-effective option for your plant collection.

cowgirl romance say what
Format: Paperback
When a city girl inherits a horse farm from her estranged late aunt. she never expects to fall head over heels for the grumpy hot farrier who dislikes her. Molly McDaniel's life is not going great, her crushing student loans haunt her, her back to back jobs to just get by take up most of her time, and her dream of starting an event planning business has been put on the backburner. When she gets news that she has inherited her late estranged aunt's run down, struggling horse barn, this could be her chance to finally get her life back in track if she can sell it.... yet when she gets there she meets Shani, the hot cocky farrier who was close to her aunt and who dislikes Molly for being the one to inherit the horse farm. Shani refuses to give up on the barn and dislikes Molly for even thinking about wanting to sell it. Molly knows she can't take care of the horse farm, she has no experience, yet the longer she spends there getting to know all the people who were working on it with her aunt and actually spending more time with Shani, she begins to fall in love with both the farm and Shani. Will Molly risk it all and keep the farm and try and convince Shani that she means to stay, or will she finally chase after her dreams and take the easy way out? This was a really easy to read cowgirl romance, but it just felt like it was missing something for me. I was hoping for some further development in the romance or some actual chemistry, but it just wasn't there for me. I really wanted to like this one but just felt like it was okay at best and that it could have been better. I would say out of all the Jennifer Dugan books I've read, this was the best one. Molly and Shani are opposites and dislike each other from the start but work to overcome their differences and stop fighting their attraction to one another. It's a easy contemporary farm girl x city girl romance and I think anyone who enjoys a sapphic romance should definitely give it a go.

Betting the farm
Format: Kindle
Shani and Molly meet after Molly unexpectedly inherits the horse farm that Shani expected to be hers. The two butt heads as Molly figures out what she wants to do with the farm. Both women are gun shy due to ghost from theirs past but they can't deny the chemistry between them. Just when it looks like they might get their happily ever after, betrayal from a friend throws a wrench in the works. This was a really good read with well structured characters and an engaging storyline.
