Grow a resilient, nutrient-dense green with Purslane Seeds from Survival Garden Seeds. Purslane (Portulaca oleracea), also known as verdolagas, is a time-tested heirloom enjoyed worldwide for its bright, lemony flavor and exceptional nutritional value. Naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, it provides reliable fresh greens during the hottest months when many crops struggle.

This low-growing, spreading plant thrives in heat and poor soil, making it an excellent choice for summer gardens, raised beds, and edible landscapes. Purslane’s crisp leaves and tender stems are delicious fresh or cooked, while its cheerful yellow flowers support pollinators and contribute to a healthy garden ecosystem.

Nutritious, Heat-Loving Heirloom Green:
Purslane (Portulaca oleracea) is known for:

  • Succulent leaves with a tangy, citrus-like flavor
  • High natural omega-3 content and valuable nutrients
  • Rapid growth and dependable summer production

Why Customers Love Purslane:

  • Provides fresh greens during hot, dry weather
  • Naturally nutrient-rich superfood for everyday meals
  • Easy to grow with minimal maintenance
  • Versatile in salads, tacos, soups, and sautés
  • Spreads as a living mulch that suppresses weeds
  • Attracts bees with small yellow blossoms

How to Use / How to Grow:
Direct sow seeds outdoors once soil has warmed in late spring, or start indoors 2–3 weeks before the last frost. Press seeds gently onto the soil surface, as light aids germination, and keep soil moist until seedlings emerge. Grow in full sun for best flavor and productivity. Purslane tolerates poor soils and drought once established. Baby leaves are ready to harvest in approximately 30–40 days, with cut-and-come-again harvesting all season long.

Harvest & Use:
Harvest young stems and leaves regularly to encourage fresh growth. Enjoy raw for a crisp, tangy bite or lightly cooked for a tender texture. Purslane’s spreading habit also makes it useful as an edible ground cover in garden beds and pathways.

Don't waste money on this one
Ordered in January 2026. Worked good the first few times. Now it just rotates around and around the can but doesn't cut anything. I'm so disappointed because it failed shortly after my return window closed.

Easy to use! No more hand cranking.
If you like the ease of an electric can opener, but don’t have room to store it or don’t want to drag it out when you need to use it, this is for you. I like a handheld can opener, but would get so frustrated trying to use it and turn the handle. This can opener is amazing and so easy to use. Just attach to can and push a button. It starts turning on its own and when it is done it stops. You lift it up and the lid comes off cleanly. It is rechargeable so need to worry about batteries. It tucks away in a drawer nicely. I bought my mom one too. She has arthritis in her hands so thought this would be perfect for her.

Smooth edges better than twisting
Works a lot better than the crank style and the counter top electric and you can use the lid to reseal the can if you don't use the whole thing.

Worked for only 4 months. Now produces metal shards. Dangerous
Pros: Can be used with one hand. I bought this to have after surgery that left me without use of one arm for a few months. The light blinks when you need to charge it. Only needs a 2-3 min charge for enough juice to open a can. Cons: IT QUIT CUTTING CORRECTLY AFTER 4 MONTHS. I now have to use both hands to hold it in place to get it to latch on to the can. It also requires a few rotations around the top to cut through the seal, resulting in METAL SHARDS! The metal shards are super sharp and almost invisible. I stabbed myself with one enough to draw blood. This is dangerous as the metal could fall into the food when pouring from the can.
