Dieffenbachia 'Tropic Marianne'

Broad yellow-green to pale green leaves edged in deeper green give Dieffenbachia 'Tropic Marianne' broad pale-centred foliage. Smooth, moderately thick blades sit close around the stems, creating a dense rounded profile.

Mature plants develop strong canes and petioles that carry the large pale-centred leaves. A weighty pot, airy substrate and softened bright placement keep the crown stable and reduce marks on the leaf surface.

Pale-centred hybrid foliage

  • Large yellow-green leaves with deeper green margins.
  • Dense upright habit with a strong central stem structure.
  • Moderately thick leaves with a smooth surface and prominent midrib.
  • Broad foliage creates a full container silhouette as the plant matures.
  • Stem sections or divisions can root under warm propagation conditions.

Hybrid origin and indoor scale

'Tropic Marianne' originated in a breeding programme in Brisbane, Australia, from an unidentified Dieffenbachia seed parent and a pollen parent involving Dieffenbachia 'Marianne' × Dieffenbachia hoffmanii.

The cultivar is known for yellow-green oblong leaves bordered in green and a dense upright branched habit. In pots, the broad pale blades need gentle filtered light around the leaf surface and a root ball that stays moist but aerated after watering.

Dieffenbachia 'Tropic Marianne' care

  • Light: Give bright indirect light for the pale leaf centres; direct midday sun can mark the blade surface.
  • Water: Keep even moisture during new leaf production, with the top 2–3 cm drying lightly between waterings.
  • Substrate: Use a loose, well-aerated mix with organic moisture retention, bark, perlite, and mineral drainage material.
  • Temperature: Maintain 18–27 °C and protect the root ball from cold floors, draughts, and chilled windowsills.
  • Humidity: Moderate ambient humidity reduces dry edging on broad pale blades during active growth.
  • Feeding: Feed at reduced strength during spring and summer; pale leaf tissue can show salt stress through edge marks.
  • Potting: Use a weighty drainage pot and refresh the mix when it compacts or dries unevenly.
  • Pruning: Remove ageing lower leaves cleanly; mature stems can be shortened above a node and rooted as cuttings.

Tropic Marianne pale-leaf checks

  • Brown patches on pale centres: Direct sun, cold contact, or concentrated fertiliser salts may be involved; adjust placement and flush the mix.
  • Soft yellowing leaves: Inspect the lower roots and older substrate, especially when the mix feels cold or heavy.
  • Dry papery edges: Review watering consistency, humidity, warm airflow, and fertiliser strength.
  • Long gaps between leaves: Improve filtered light and turn the pot while new leaves are forming.
  • Hidden pests: Check petiole bases, the midrib, and the underside of older leaves for scale, mealybugs, or mites.

Tropic Marianne stem handling

Dieffenbachia 'Tropic Marianne' contains calcium oxalate raphides in cut or chewed tissue, like other dumb cane cultivars. Keep it where pets and children cannot chew the stems, and wear gloves when pruning, repotting or taking stem cuttings.

Tropic Marianne hybrid origin

The genus name Dieffenbachia honours Joseph Dieffenbach of the Schönbrunn palace gardens in Vienna. 'Tropic Marianne' is a documented Dieffenbachia hybrid in Araceae, selected for pale yellow-green foliage with darker green margins and a dense upright habit.

Dieffenbachia 'Tropic Marianne' has broad pale leaves, deep green edges and a dense upright habit.

Our first babies favorite and longest lasting ball yet and he is fixing to be 7.

Toughest ball we have found yet. Our doberman loves Chuckit! Balls especially the crunch one. He spreads all the balls and toys we have bought but these lasted the longest. The crunch and the glow in the dark are usually his pick but he has several different choices.

Best Balls Ever!!!
Size: Medium
These are the best balls ever! We have 2 very active ball loving dogs and these bounce very well and they actually hold up with active play and chewing. They still look brand new after daily use for months!

Finally a ball my power chewers cannot destroy
Size: Medium
I have two dogs, an American Bully and an American Pit Bull Terrier, and both of them love to chew. Most balls last a very short time around here before they are shredded or missing big chunks. This one has actually held up. They chase it, tug on it and sit and chew on it, and it is still in one piece with no pieces breaking off. One of my favorite things is being able to put food inside. I add some kibble or small snacks, and they will happily sit and work on it for a long time. It keeps them busy, gives them something safe to chew, and they get a little reward while they play. When they are done, I just rinse it out and it is ready to go again. If you have strong jawed dogs that usually destroy toys, this ball is worth trying. Mine really enjoy it and I feel better knowing they finally have a ball that can keep up with them.

My dog LOVES this ball
Size: Medium, Size: Medium
Does your dog destroy tennis balls in seconds? Yes? Then your dog NEEDS this ball! It's squishy like a tennis ball, fits in ball launchers (even the cheap ones) and bounces when it hits the ground. My dog has been literally playing with this ball all day and not a single mark on it! The only bad thing is that it does not float. Definitely worth the money! Put it in your cart!

Perfect for ball demolishers
Size: Medium
The dogs love the chuck it brand. I don’t know what it’s made of but they go crazy over them. Will not play with another ball. Wonder if it’s “laced” with an addictive scent. Have pits. Very durable. Not able to chew to pieces. Last for about 6 months before there is a small break. I keep a back up because when the ball goes missing the house is in chaos. 😆 🤪
