Meet nature's most efficient composters. Red wigglers (Eisenia fetida) are the gold standard of vermicomposting worms for good reason. These small but mighty worms can consume approximately 25% of their body weight daily, breaking down kitchen scraps and organic waste into rich, dark worm castings that supercharge garden soil with nutrients that synthetic fertilizers simply can't replicate. If you're serious about composting, red wigglers are an absolute must.

Why Red Wigglers?
Unlike standard earthworms, red wigglers thrive in contained composting environments and work rapidly through organic material in dense populations. Their castings contain nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium and are packed with beneficial microbes, making them one of the most valuable natural soil amendments available.

How many worms do you need?
As a general rule, 1 lb (~800–1,000 worms) is ideal for a standard 10-gallon composting bin, processing roughly 1 kg (2 lbs) of kitchen scraps per week. Start small if you're a beginner; our ¼ lb or ½ lb options are perfect for first-time vermicomposters who are getting comfortable with the process. The 1/16 lb is a great quantity for fishermen or as feeders for other pets.

The size and number of worms will vary, however:

  • 1 lb is approximately 800-1000 worms
  • 1/2 lb is approximately 400-500 worms
  • 1/4 lb is approximately 200-250 worms
  • 1/16 lb is approximately 60-65 worms

All Wormera red wigglers are thoroughly cleaned before weighing, so every order is accurate, and we add an extra 5–10% to account for any shipping stress.

We strongly recommend pairing this product with Red Wiggler Cocoons and Babies. Creating a natural, staggered population that matures in waves, keeping your composting output consistent over time. The rich bedding included is teeming with beneficial microbes and bacteria that inject life into your vermicompost bin with the biological activity needed to kickstart decomposition from day one.

Basic Care Instructions:
Set up your bin with moist coco coir, shredded cardboard, and/or aged compost as bedding. Aim for a moisture level similar to a wrung-out sponge. Maintain temperatures between 18–24°C (64–75°F) for peak activity; red wigglers slow significantly below 10°C (50°F) and struggle above 30°C (86°F). Feed with fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, and crushed eggshells. Avoid citrus, onions, dairy, meat, and oily foods, which can harm your worms and attract pests. IMPORTANT: Live worm orders are only shipped on Mondays. Or Tuesdays after a long weekend. Please see our shipping policy for more information.

Comfortable and convenient
They are awesome socks. Perfect for slides or flip flops. I used them traveling by plane. When you have to take your shoes off in security you can wear slip on shoes while still protecting your bare feet from the floors.

One pair too small
The two solid color pairs were good quality and fit well but the cute patterned ones didn’t have any stretch and were way too small to get on my feet. I was pretty bummed because they were the main reason I purchased this 3 pack.
