Kosbee Korean Safflower Seed is whole, unground safflower seed — honghwassi (홍화씨) — grown in Uiseong, Korea, kept whole to stay fresh, with no additives and only about 9 calories a cup, roasted and brewed into a nutty, caffeine-free tea.

In the West, safflower is best known as a flower or an oil. Korean tradition brews the seed itself — lightly roasted, it gives a warm, nutty cup. Each resealable pouch holds 5.25 oz (150 g).

In the West, safflower is best known for its flower and its oil — but Korean tradition prized the seed itself, dry-roasted and brewed into a warm, nutty tea. Kosbee selects plump whole safflower seeds from Uiseong, one of Korea's finest growing regions, and keeps them whole so they reach you fresh.

From Uiseong, Korea's Famous Region

Kosbee uses safflower seed grown in Uiseong, a Korean region long known for high-quality crops. It is a Product of Korea with a clearly named origin — not anonymous bulk seed.

The seeds are plump, clean, and whole, ready to roast and brew at home.

Whole Seed for Freshness, Not Powder

Once safflower seed is ground, its natural oils oxidize quickly and the flavor goes flat. Kosbee keeps the seeds whole, so they stay fresh until you roast and brew them yourself.

That means a fresher, nuttier cup — and no stale, rancid taste.

Caffeine-Free, Light & Clean
About 9 calories a cup, 0 g sugar, and no caffeine — a light, clean cup.

The 5.25 oz (150 g) pouch makes about 7 to 8 servings (2 tbsp / 20 g each).

How to Roast and Brew Korean Safflower Seed

For the best flavor, lightly roast first: toast the whole seeds in a dry pan over low heat until they turn lightly golden and smell nutty, so they brew more easily and taste toasty.

For tea, simmer 2 tablespoons (about 20 g) of roasted seeds in 1.5 to 2 quarts (1.5 to 2 liters) of water; boil, then steep on low for 40 minutes to an hour.

For a blend, simmer it with Kosbee siberian ginseng (gasiogapi) or sambucus stem for a deeper, rounder herbal cup.

How to Enjoy It Safely

Do not use during pregnancy. Safflower seed is traditionally avoided in pregnancy, so if you are pregnant or nursing, do not drink it and talk to your doctor.

If you have a bleeding condition, have surgery scheduled, or take blood-thinning medication, avoid it or talk to your doctor first.

Safflower is in the daisy (Asteraceae) family, so if you are allergic to ragweed or related plants, talk to your doctor before drinking it.

If you have a sensitive stomach, start with a lighter brew and enjoy it in moderation.

Common Questions About Safflower Seed

Where is this safflower seed from?

Kosbee Korean Safflower Seed is whole honghwassi grown in Uiseong, Korea — a region known for high-quality crops — with no additives. It's kept whole rather than ground, packed in a resealable pouch, and shipped from our New Jersey warehouse, so you get fresh, clean seeds to roast and brew.

How do I roast and brew safflower seed?

Lightly toast the whole seeds in a dry pan over low heat until golden and nutty, then simmer 2 tablespoons (about 20 g) in 1.5 to 2 quarts (1.5 to 2 liters) of water — boil, then steep on low for 40 minutes to an hour. It's nutty and caffeine-free, and pairs well with siberian ginseng or sambucus.

Who should not drink safflower seed tea?

Do not use it during pregnancy — safflower seed is traditionally avoided in pregnancy, so if you are pregnant or nursing, don't drink it and consult your doctor. If you have a bleeding condition, have surgery scheduled, or take blood thinners, avoid it or talk to your doctor. Start with a lighter brew if your stomach is sensitive.

How is this different from safflower oil or powder?

In the West, safflower usually means oil or the dried flower. Kosbee gives you the whole seed — honghwassi — kept unground so it stays fresh, to roast and brew into a nutty, caffeine-free Korean tea from Uiseong, a Product of Korea.

Almost perfect...upraised logo should be left off
This toy is great for relentless chewers with strong jaws! It would be almost perfect if it didn't have a "K9" logo in raised rubber on it. That is the place that my aggressive chewer shepherd/bulldog mix focuses on and is able to get small chunks off. Without that logo, he would chew the ball more evenly, instead of fixating on that one spot. He loves this ball and has chewed on it for about an hour off & on each of the 11 days he has had it. Although it is very durable so far, the flaw is the upraised logo.

Perfect for High-Drive Dogs & Surprisingly Durable (six month review)
I use this ring ball for structured fetch and tug sessions with my high-drive German Shepherd mix (91 lbs. at 10 mon.), and it’s easily the best toy we’ve added to our routine. What makes it truly exceptional is how it allows my dog to engage in the full canine predatory sequence: • Chase: He locks in visually and bolts after the ring when I throw it. • Grab & Hold: He brings it back, pins it against my leg, and bites down firmly (the toy—not the leg!)—his way of acting out the natural catch-and-control behavior. • Unalive & Tug: We finish with a strong tug session, which satisfies his instinct to grip and shake—basically his version of “making the toy unalive.” • Settle & Chew: Afterward, he relaxes with a chew toy or eats—completing the full physical and mental cycle in a healthy, balanced way. Durability is outstanding—this toy stands up to intense tug sessions with no tearing or damage, even with a 91 lb powerhouse. My senior dog also joins in for double tug play, and it holds up beautifully to that too. I don’t leave this toy down for chewing—it’s not a chew toy. I use it specifically for fetch and tug, then put it away when we’re done. This keeps it exciting and extends its lifespan. My dog has other chew toys he can use freely throughout the day. This isn’t just another fetch toy—when thoughtful it provides a structured, instinct-satisfying experience that’s mentally enriching and physically engaging. If you have a high-drive or working breed, or a dog who thrives on interactive play, this ring ball is 100% worth it.

Finally, a toy my dog hasn’t murdered
If your dog destroys toys like it’s their full-time job, this stick is the boss-level challenge they didn’t see coming. I gave it to my power-chewer (a pit mix with jaws of steel), and after a week of gnawing, tossing, and dramatic tug-of-war battles, it’s still intact. Not even a dent. I think it might be made of space-grade rubber or the same stuff they use in black boxes. It’s got a good weight to it — heavy enough to feel solid, light enough to toss without pulling a shoulder. No squeaker, no fluff, no sad stuffing guts all over the living room. Just pure chewable glory. Pros: • Actually indestructible (or close enough) • Great for aggressive chewers • No squeaker = peace and quiet • Easy to clean and doesn’t smell weird • Doubles as a fetch toy and chew stick Minor feedback: It’s a bit heavy for small dogs, and it doesn’t bounce or squeak — but if your dog’s into serious chewing, they won’t care. Also, don’t drop it on your foot. Trust me. Final thoughts: This toy is the Chuck Norris of dog sticks. If your pup has shredded everything else, give this a shot. It might just survive — and so might your sanity.

Durable
If you have an aggressive chewer this will hold up for about a month. After about a month of daily use my police k9 will get the ends off. Is it completely indestructible no, does it hold up better then any other toy he’s had absolutely. When you have a dog with super high toy drive you understand nothing is indestructible but I will say a month for a toy to last with my dog is great and I accept the fact I just have to buy new toys monthly. For reference my dog will destroy a Kong in about half the time.

GREAT DURABILITY FOR MY XL SUPER CHEWER !
My dog LOVESSSSS this toy. It’s definitely one of her favorites! I have a Pit-Mastiff mix and she loves to chew toys, but her breed also means she’s got an outrageous amount of strength in those jaws, making it hard to find toys that can last without getting torn up super easily. We typically buy Kong “Super Chewer” toys and this has held up better than those! We’ve had it a good few months and it’s super durable. She gnaws on this thing every day for a good bit of time, and it doesn’t have any weak spots, holes, chunks missing, NOTHING, except a few dimples. It’s firm but also has give to it that (I think) really provides a good chewing option. It’s got enough weight and give to it that I can throw it for her and it’ll bounce without flying around crazy like some toys. The toy itself is not super cute, but my dog definitely is when she’s carrying it around everywhere 🥹 My only con is that I wish it came in other colors! I was surprised that she liked it so much because she typically prefers bright colored toys like red/orange/blue/green. It took some time, but once she warmed up to it and realized she could chew as hard as she wanted on it, it was game over from there.
