Anthurium regale x magnificum

Anthurium regale x magnificum is a velvet-leaf Anthurium hybrid with broad heart-shaped foliage, pale venation and an upright crown. The cross links the large-leafed character of Anthurium regale with the substantial, veined foliage of Anthurium magnificum.

In a container, this hybrid forms a central crown with leaves held on firm petioles. New growth often opens softer and lighter before hardening into deeper green. Mature leaves become broad, tactile and clearly veined before the plant reaches full size.

Key traits of Anthurium regale x magnificum

  • Broad cordate foliage with a velvet-like surface
  • Pale primary veins that give the leaf a defined Anthurium pattern
  • Firm petioles and crown-based growth
  • Larger mature blades under warm, stable indoor cultivation
  • Airy, moisture-balanced substrate around active Anthurium roots

Botanical background and foliage form

Anthurium regale is native to north-eastern Peru and grows in wet tropical conditions. Anthurium magnificum is native to Colombia, where it is recorded from wet tropical habitat and is known in cultivation for large cordate leaves and substantial petioles. Anthurium regale x magnificum is a cultivated cross, so individual plants may vary in venation width, blade shape and petiole strength.

Mature blades can become noticeably larger when roots are healthy and the crown is allowed to build size over time. Even leaf expansion depends on warm temperatures, filtered light, active roots and stable humidity.

Growing Anthurium regale x magnificum indoors

  • Light: Give bright, indirect light. Morning or late-day softness is usually easier on velvet foliage than strong overhead sun.
  • Watering: Water when the upper substrate begins to dry while the lower root zone still holds light moisture. Keep watering especially even during active leaf expansion.
  • Substrate: Use a coarse, open mix with bark, perlite or pumice, coco chips and a small moisture-holding fraction. Dense potting soil limits oxygen around the roots.
  • Humidity: Keep humidity moderate to high, especially while new leaves are unfurling. Stable airflow helps keep the crown healthy.
  • Temperature: Maintain 20–28 °C where possible. Growth slows in cooler rooms, and wet roots become more vulnerable below warm indoor temperatures.
  • Feeding: Apply a weak balanced fertiliser during active growth. Modest, regular feeding supplies nutrients for larger leaves without overloading the root zone.
  • Repotting: Repot into a slightly larger container once roots have filled the mix. Keep the crown above the substrate surface.
  • Acclimation: Give the plant a stable position after delivery. New Anthurium leaves can mark easily while adapting to a different room climate.

Leaf and root signals to monitor

  • Brown tips or margins: Check for dry air, uneven watering or fertiliser salts. Adjust gradually and remove heavily damaged leaf parts only when needed.
  • Yellow lower leaves: A single ageing lower leaf can be normal; several soft yellow leaves suggest excess moisture or root decline.
  • Small new leaves: Usually linked to weak light, a tired root system or low nutrition during active growth.
  • Leaf deformation: Inspect the new growth area for pests, dry sheath tissue or sudden humidity swings.

Development notes

Anthurium regale x magnificum produces its largest leaves after the root system has settled into an open mix and the light position stays consistent. Keep the crown clean, remove spent cataphyll material gently and allow each leaf to harden before judging its final colour or texture.

Anthurium regale x magnificum home safety notes

Anthurium regale x magnificum should be kept away from pets and children that may chew plant material. The plant contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which can irritate the mouth and digestive tract if chewed or swallowed. Keep it out of reach of pets and children, and avoid contact with sap from damaged tissue.

Etymology and parent names

Anthurium is a genus in the Araceae family. The name comes from Greek roots meaning “flower” and “tail”, a reference to the spadix. The parent epithet regale carries a regal meaning, while magnificum means magnificent or splendid. Its hybrid name reflects the two species used in the cross.

Anthurium regale x magnificum develops broad velvet leaves, pale veins and a crown of firm petioles.

God but..
Size: 4 Inch (Pack of 2)
My small dog loves these. None of the bones are as tough as they say. I have to change out about once a month. It gets a little pricey but they can swallow the pieces once chewed a bit.
