Variegated Bear’s Paw is a perennial succulent plant of the genus Silver Boletin in the family Sedum. The plant is much branched, with green stems, fertile fleshy leaves, decussate, ovoid, green, and densely white short hairs. The leaves have red claw-like teeth at the tips, dichotomous cymes, yellow florets, and flowers from July to September.

This species is native to the Cape Province of South Africa. It prefers a warm, dry, sunny and well-ventilated environment. Too high temperatures in summer will make it dormant. Avoid cold and excessive humidity. Propagation methods include cuttings. This species has beautiful leaf shape and color, delicate and small flowers, and leaves resembling the paws of a bear, which is a peculiar form and very cute, with high ornamental value.

The leaf surface is densely covered with white fine short hairs, and the leaf tips have several small claws that turn red in strong light, looking like fat bear claws. Variegated Bear’s Paw racemes, flowers are reddish.

Care Tips

Light: It is generally recommended not to expose the Bear's Paw to sunlight when the temperature is above about 96°F (36 ℃), as it is easy to get sunburned, and the Variegated Bear’s Paw is basically semi-dormant at this temperature.

Water: All succulents are drought tolerant and fear water logging, and bear’s paws are no exception. Watering it can be done according to the method of dry and wet, and the soil does not need to be watered if it is not dry. During the growing season, it is usually watered once a week, but in other stages, watering should be strictly controlled because the roots could be damaged by overwatering.

Soil: Potting soil requires well-drained granular soil, available vermiculite, perlite, and various granular soils. You can prepare your own nutritious soil when you maintain it, or you can buy special soil for succulent plants directly.

Potting: It is recommended to use ceramic pots, ceramic pots have a certain degree of permeability, clay pots lose water too fast, plastic pots retain water too strong, and poor permeability.

Temperature: Variegated Bear's Paw should be maintained in a warm, dry and sunny environment. When the temperature exceeds 95°F (35℃) in summer, the whole plant growth basically stops. At this time, watering should be reduced and shade should be provided to prevent root rot caused by excessive humidity in the potting soil. And strengthen the ventilation, avoid the hot sun exposure, the whole summer maintenance is basically like this. In winter, watering should be strictly controlled to keep the potting soil dry and able to withstand low temperatures of 41°F (5℃).

Humidity: Variegated Bear's Paw grows well in average household humidity levels when grown indoors. Does not like too much humidity. Normal household humidity is good for this plant.

    Care Instructions

Please visit our Succulent Care info page for more details.

To ensure the health of succulents, it is important to plant them in porous, well-draining soil. Succulents require little watering, but don't like to sit in wet soil. To create an adequate cactus mix, simply add pumice, perlite, or grit to cactus soil to provide the proper drainage.

Make sure to leave drought periods between waterings to prevent the plant from water-logging.

      Pattern Name: Star
The dogs love these! They're sturdy and give them plenty of chew time. The size is great and they are very playable. The dogs have a lot of fun and the weight is just enough for our little dogs.

Great Dane Tested and Approved 5 Star
Pattern Name: Checkered, Pattern Name: Checkered
A picture is worth a thousand words applies to this product, as you will see in the attached photos these stand up to the abuse of a Great Dane. He has dragged me around the yard for hours already with this in his mouth and the stretchy handle keeps it shape. This ball is a little firmer than others of these I have had in the past, which helps exercise his giant jaw. I could get a few weeks out of the other brands I have bought. This brand is still like new well past the time others have failed. I will be ordering more as my French Mastiff is interested in one of his own (the boys do not like to share toys - most dog guardians understand).
