  • Scientific name: Graptopetalum amethystinum
  • Common names: Lavender Pebbles, Jewel Leaf Plant
  • Family: Crassulaceae (same as echeverias, sedums, and graptopetalums)

🌿 Appearance

  • Leaves:
    • Plump, rounded, and smooth — look like little pebbles or jelly beans.
    • Color ranges from pale pink to lavender, silvery gray, or bluish, depending on light and temperature.
    • Covered with a natural waxy coating (farina) that gives them a frosted look and protects them from sunburn.
  • Growth habit:
    • Forms small rosettes that cluster over time into a mound.
    • Each rosette grows up to about 10–15 cm (4–6 inches) tall.
  • Flowers:
    • Star-shaped, usually white or pale yellow with reddish speckles.
    • Appear on long, thin stems in late winter to early spring.

☀️ Care Requirements

Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect sunlight or a few hours of direct morning sun.
  • Too little light causes stretching (etiolation) — the leaves spread out and lose color.
  • Too much harsh midday sun can scorch the leaves.

Watering

  • Follow the “soak and dry” method: water deeply, then wait until soil is completely dry before watering again.
  • Overwatering can easily cause root rot due to its thick, water-storing leaves.
  • In winter, reduce watering — the plant rests and uses less water.

Soil

  • Needs well-draining soil, such as a cactus/succulent mix.
  • You can improve drainage by adding pumice, perlite, or coarse sand.

Temperature

  • Ideal range: 18–27°C (65–80°F).
  • Protect from frost; it can tolerate brief dips to around 0°C (32°F), but not sustained cold.

Humidity

  • Prefers dry air. Avoid humid environments or misting.

🌱 Propagation

Very easy to propagate by:

  • Leaf cuttings: Gently twist off a healthy leaf, let it callous for a few days, then place it on dry soil. New roots and rosettes will form.
  • Stem cuttings: Cut a healthy stem, let it dry for a few days, then plant it in well-draining soil.
  • Offsets: Small rosettes that form at the base can be separated and replanted.

⚠️ Common Problems

  • Overwatering: Causes mushy, translucent leaves and root rot.
  • Insufficient light: Leads to elongated, pale rosettes.
  • Handling damage: The powdery farina rubs off easily — handle by the stem if possible.

Another one bites the dust!!
Another one bites the dust. It looked like it was gonna be strong enough for our new puppy. We adopted a border collie who is about six months old. This was supposed to be durable. Lasted about a week. Might be good for older dogs. I wouldn’t recommend.

Well-made and great size for the price!
Color: blue black
Very tough product, no odor of plastic, good toy for outside, perfect for medium or large dogs. Noise isn't too bad and the color is cute as well. Can't destroy this toy!

Durable Great for aggressive chewers
Color: Blue
Will make one whole room smell like fake bacon, but my dogs love it and it’s super strong and durable. I have a lab mixed with rotty and a full lab so it’s a perfect match.
